This is not a rant or rage.
I just wanted to express to fellow players and CCP what my thoughts on what the new game would have been and curious to find out if anyone else had the same ideas.
To me, my original concept of what Dust 514 was and what it could become began racing in my head all the way back to the earliest announcement of the original game. Learning that it would be fully remade / re-invented into a PC game brought hopes back that the things that were mentioned but were not possible on a PS3 may finally come into fruition.
What I really wanted to play was basically EVE Online on the ground.
What I mean by that is a Sci-Fi, fully persistent, Sandbox world just like EVE but instead of in space... on planets and other conquerable celestial bodies.
Imagine a world where there was no match-making... just like EVE, you log in where you logged out. Imagine a world where players, Corps, Alliance could come together to build structures (like Outposts & Citadels) making colonies on the ground. Building bases, defenses, towns and exploring the ground life of New Eden. Imagine a world where Non combat transport vehicles such as shuttles in EVE are Planetary Cars & Bikes to quickly move oneself around the world. Imagine a continuous ongoing war like PlanetSide 2 and building those structures like Rust / Arc / or H1Z1.
Imagine a world where players could actually build infrastructures, harvesters, and produce those planetary commodities found in EVE. imagines industrialists with Ore Drilling machines and quarries on planets to extract resources to build tanks or even sell Trit to EVE Players.
Anyone remember the Space Bridge / tether concept between EVE and Dust to flow items from one game into another?
I expected a full blown MMORPG Sandbox just like EVE where combat and ships / tanks / gun were important but all the other aspects and doors open to Industrialists, Farmers, and Colonists would be just as solid of gameplay.
Again, I had hopes of EVE on the ground - Just as robust and deep.
Maybe one day that MMORPG will become a reality in the Universe directly connected to EVE where they share more than just a link but can share everything. All the planetary commodities of EVE have direct use in Dust and vice versa. The "match making shooter" was something I actually expected to go away. Oh well, maybe one day.
If you had thoughts of a PC game like this or thought the PC would open those doors that the PS3 was far to limited too do, I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Thank you for your time,

Here's the deal: you can't sow wheat on a bed of sand. DUST 514 out the gate had a great vision, but it was built on a horrible foundation and could only build so high before those horrible game mechanics eventually caused the game to collapse.
From what I've seen from Project Nova, CCP has used the project to test out new a new foundation to build the future on. I don't doubt that in time we'll see more and more complex assets, because you can do more when you have a more solid foundation.
Don't look on Nova a think "this isn't substantial." Look at Nova and try to see the potential it has to grow.

From what it sounds like, Nova is headed in the right direction.
They're focused on being a good shooter first, with the foundations of SP and MMO in place. They will then expand on it to reach out to EVE and delve further into those aspects, but they want to make sure they have good GAMEPLAY first (Which, by the way, is what we've been yelling at them for two years. Dust always had horrible mechanical gameplay).
IF they do this, everything will go well. My only worry is they'll make the shooter and then decide the rest is too hard.

You never just leave Dust. You story will last forever.

After talking with Aeon, Kirk and that ******* Darth I feel fine now, they explained a lot so it's not just negative speculation now..but I really don't want to wait for a closed beta =ƒÿ¡ I want it now |

Hey, they have a working tech demo rather than just a slick trailer.
We might see Closed Beta in 6-9 months if we are lucky. That's a universe away from a few months ago when most of us assumed that the death of Legion meant the whole DUST concept was dead.
I look at it this way, it's been over two years that we knew DUST wasn't going to fulfill its promise. Over two years that we have waited with very little hope. Now we have hope. Not much more, just a tech demo and a few words, but a possibility that the original vision might yet be realized.
If we have survived so many years already we can survive a few more months. |
