Those of you who bought an old PS3 (old means a Phatty-PS3...), and are feeling abandoned with "nothing to use my PS3 on, now that Dust servers are disconnecting", DO have a rare opportunity to play a consolation game.
Shockingly, (or maybe not shocking to die-hard SW fans), the original and still considered most-replayable "Battlefronts" games are still up on servers and accessible.
A friend of a friend told us about this four years ago, and apparently it is STILL true. Multiplayer online matches in all categories of Battlefront I and Battlefronts II are free to vent your frustration on, and ween yourselves down from the Dust 514 addiction (....because a junkie without his game habit, is as sorrowful a sight to see as the shoeless kids in 3rd world countries...)
Visit the PSN official forum, type in the Star Wars Battelfronts in the search box, and you'll find players who posted how to re-connect to the Battlefront servers.
Unfortunately, only the true classic PS3 fatty models can play these games in online mode. You must have a CECHE-A or CECHE-E model. These were the initial release, and the later "software emulation" models. All models after these were redesigned so far away from the original, that games like Battlefront were no longer playable in online modes.
I've watched my friend play these, and I can truthfully attest, they are the genuine SW Battlefront game servers, not some home-made knockoff pulling a scam with George Lucas's game.
If you're feeling the pain of separation from New Eden, return to the moon of Old Endor with some of us, and slap down some scout walkers the way we used to. (remember? Scout Walkers can't use jump-biotics! Huraaay!)
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

The only thing I use my FAT PS3 is for Dust, so when the servers close I'm going to downgrade it so I can run downloaded ISO's from SSD, untill I either run out of games to play or I get YLOD.
I just hope the system holds out until May 30th..... yikes!

I just hope the system holds out until May 30th..... yikes! That's a big reason why I stopped playing Dust after the announcement of the move to PC. I'm 'conserving' the life left in my PS3 by waiting until after FanFest to pick it up again. There'll probably be a renewed push in player log-ins to see the game off.

There already is, I've been actively playing again since the rouge wedding for the past 2 months and I've seen a steady increase of playing logged in on a weekly basis.
From when I returned the peak player count was 1,500 ish now it seems to be hovering at 1,800 ish and steadily increasing. You should deffo come back and play!

I'm jealous of you guys with the old fattie PS3s. They make fun little linux boxes for toying around on some hacks. Something about their cell architecture just makes them run so smooth with a proper linux setup. |

My fat PS3 died a couple years ago, replaced by a slim. I'll still be using it as a BlueRay player and for Netflix streaming. I joined the PC Master Race for SC so I'll be ready for NotLegion if and when it becomes more than a trailer. |
