As a result of this thread, I thought I'd try a completely different approach to Caldari Assault. I burnt quite a lot of CalAss ck.0 suits today doing this, and I'm pleased to say I discovered something very interesting.
I put a lot of the ideas in the above thread into a new fit, including an idea I got from a number of other threads about dual bolt pistols, but using dual magsecs instead. I put this on a CalAss ck.0:
- 2x Complex sidearm damage mods
- 2x Complex shield energisers
- Basic shield extender
- Enhanced Kincat
- Enhanced Cardio
- Basic CPU upgrade
- 2x Kaala MAGSEC
- M1 Nade
- Compact nano
I thought I'd try something I'd noticed other players doing - full-on direct attacks. People don't expect them and don't know what to do about them. I knew I needed speed hence kincat, and I didn't want to run out of puff, hence cardio. The two complex sidearm damage mods gave the two Kaala MAGSECs amazing power. I just basicly charged at my targets, not directly, but at a slight angle, keeping the current MAGSEC pointed at them, then dancing around them while they couldn't deal with the speed. I survived rather well for one battle, then it all came unstuck in the next one - they seemed to know how to counter me. My guess is the second battle was players who use this technique themselves so I basicly failed dismally second time around.
But I think I might persevere to see if I get any better. I have plenty of ISK to through at the exercise and I'll probably keep going at it for a few more days, at least until I tire of dying countless times and losing ck.0 suits.... |

If you are going to have 2 sidearms you need 1 for shield

If you are going to have 2 sidearms you need 1 for shield "If you are going to have 2 sidearms you need 1 for shield" - Not quite sure what you mean by that! 1 what?
I've worked out a slightly different fit that gives me more shield - now 1 complex shield extender and a complex shield reg. Also a drop uplink. So now I have:
- 2x comp shield energisers
- 2x comp sidearm damage mods
- 1x comp shield ext
- 1x enh kincat
- 1x enh cardio
- 1x comp shield reg
- M1 nade
- Stable drop uplink
This only JUST fits into the PG and CPU on my suit - I still have some training to do.
I did think of using a Kaala MAGSEC and a Kaala BP, but the point was to use dual one or the other. Since I have a problem with the charge time of the BP, I decided to go with dual MAGSEC instead. |

If you are going to have 2 sidearms you need 1 for shield I just figured out what you meant by needing 1 for shield. This fit was about dual weapons, identical. It was a choice between BP or MAGSEC, not really looking at different weapons. I'm only trained in Caldari weapons in any case, so there's not much choice there...
Thanks for the idea anyway. |

If not I recommend it, people tend to get mad at you....
Or perhaps it was that I was in a commando that irritated them......
But still, dual bp is fun as hell. Pocket sniper ftw!

But then the Samurai Calmando actually has a sniper rifle, so it's not an unusual role. |

I can use any BP in the game and only the top officer one has a faster ROF which is my main problem with them. How do people get around that?
With RR and ARR it's different - I've gotten used to precharging, actually holding the trigger while I'm still aiming, so I'm firing as I aim. Once the rifles have started firing, they keep going. But the BP is different - it has a separate full charge up every time it fires. I find that unworkable. |

Well, they've told us precisely nothing about what they'll port. I stand by my statement that Dust is supposed to be persistent, so not porting everything is going against what they originally told us, and the whole theme of the New Eden EvE universe.
That said, being on a different platform there have to be some differences, but I believe they could be minimal. If they really wanted to make this persistent, they could largely do it.

I am used to running logi and scout so if you play it cautious, and aim for the head, you can normally 2/3 shot most suits.
It is one of the few weapons I always ads' with.
Well used to mind.
Now I almost exclusively run min scout/assault......
And being racial as far as weapons go these days....
Ehhh I'very put too many rules in place for my self.....
Idk (back to original topic), it was just a weapon that I spent about a month trying to master, and at a point was a pretty good shot with it....
Proved that I was the best out of my friends through a few duels......
In b the end I liked it, so I worked to master it.....
It's almost like using the asfg of the sidearms, hard to master, but fun to use

I actually can use the BP like a charge SR, just smaller. The problem I have with sniping generally is when they're moving. I don't do moving targets all that well....
Having said that, there have been times when I've had to switch to a BP and take out some pesky scout with a shotgunand just one or two hits is usually enough with a BP. You just have to land them.
Therein lies the problem - still keeping the aim when the thing fires. I know how powerful it is and how effective it is when you actually hit something with it. It's the hitting bit that is a problem for me... :) |

I liked the first gen bolt pistol (six shot, weaker), imho it was perfect then.
Now it's just odd to use... Plus i don't find it as good as the magsex.. The charge is long and missing means you've missed a significant amount of damage.
As for your fit, what's the stats like? (sHP, sHP/s, etc)

So they are starting from scratch, using what they learned from DUST. I believe persistence is still one of their main goals, and it should be easier to achieve on the PC platform.
Think of DUST 514 like a Marathon where they fired the starting pistol, and then realized that they forgot to start the race timer, so the are telling everyone to go back to the starting line so they can do it again properly.

As for your fit, what's the stats like? (sHP, sHP/s, etc) My fit varies depending on what I'm doing. Lately I've dropped the complex light weapon mods for complex shields. I get a bit more than 500HP with three complex extenders, and about 110HP/s with 2 complex energisers.
I've settled on two fits, with slightly different tank, one with IshARR/KaalaMAGSEC for tighter situations, and one with KaalaRR/KaalaBP for range. I'm still not sure about the BP. All in all, though, I'm finding these two fits quite good. |

Yes, I can see how that might be the only way they can finally get the persistence thing going, and it will be worth the effort if they succeed. |
