Not really.
All this says to me is that they don't want to say too much lest they shoot themselves in the foot all over again. And I think they have enough holes on their feet already.

Just keep in mind that Falcon over here is just a community guy and for EVE online not DUST or anything. He used to be just a player and as such I don't think he would be privy to FPS New Eden information. Maybe he is I don't know. Don't shoot the messanger is all im saying. |

CCP has had a tumultuous history developing this game. It literally started as a proof of concept in the incarna enginein 2009, only for it to melt the PS3s it was being played on. Then suddenly switching to U3 three years later in 2012 as it's rough final incarnation into the Closed Beta. After what I expect was CCP's panicked response to bad reviews, never mind the soothsaying beta players, they canned their EP and brought in Gaudechon. It was probably only until after Eve Vegas in 2013 that the new EP finally decided that It would need to transition to the PC. You'll start seeing a pattern hear in terms of game development time.
After being kept in the dark until the final reveal in 2014 there was a phase up until the end of summer where they had released screen caps of their various WiP and it suddenly went dark, I can assume that they decided that they wanted to switch over to U4 but had not decided to shutdown Dust 514 yet as they had known the game was profitable according to Hilmar in 2015, and was worth some odd monetizing schemes. It wasn't really until this latest announcement on it's closure this year that this game was no longer viable to be developed technically or rightfully operate in the world of Eve.
The odd part in all of this is what they are expecting to show this Fanfest. with the U4 engine it doesn't look like they responded to any of the negative or confused press. But rather they decided that they were doing it wrong again for the fourth time and reorganized the progress system and probably the art layout, most importantly doing some kind of strict cleaning of all the crazy crap Rattati and friends shoved in Dust when CCP stopped caring. The most annoying part however is how they explain the lore not in the least explaining what Dust 514 meant, not that it would matter right now anyway....they haven't tied important "Planet Mercs" events since the Arkombine got away, not necessarily player involved events but the rational of what is allowing the "Planet Mercs" to operate on such different levels of operations and who is acting as the de facto spokesperson for them.
It's always amazing to think that CCP likes to act like a upright corporation in their fantasy worlds. When it's more like they are fishermen trying to be bankers prior to the economic recession.

Would it be useful to crowdsource the most burning questions players would like answered at Fanfest?
Personally I think the two most important questions are
1) What will happen to my character when the servers go down. 2) How will my Dust achievements translate to the new game 3) Will we be given access to the beta? 4) How can we keep the community together once the servers go dark.
Think I might start a new thread and see what questions players come up with, then maybe we can have a poll? |

Think I might start a new thread and see what questions players come up with, then maybe we can have a poll? Ummm, that's four questions...
But I think I can answer at least some of them by pure logic:
1) Your character or at least your account will have to be transferred to the new PC version in order for there to be any recognition. You have to sign in to get the rewards so your account has to preserved. What they actually use of your account and/or your characters will be down to what the new version actually does with it.
2) This is what I want to know also. I come from the idea that we should preserve everything, that there's simply no point in not porting the works over. Obviously, there will be some things that either can't port over or will have to change, eg. BPOs and their use, but other than that most things should be able to be ported in some way, particularly SP (the SP concept already exists in New Eden), WP, LP (this also already exists in New Eden), ISK and AUR, again, both of which already exist.
3) I should think this would be almost a given. EvE Online players were given access to the Dust beta, which is how I came to be a vet, even though I didn't really play until less than a year ago. I should think if anyone was given access to the beta it would be us, through our current Dust accounts which have to be preserved as outlined in my answer 1) above. The characters may even be preserved and available in the beta, which from my perspective would be excellent.
4) This may be up to us. It may be that we simply have to find another venue for our community. However, it needs to be noted that this forum is hosted on EvE servers, using security tied to our accounts, which we currently log into using PSN. There would be very little involved in making the login happen via EvE Gate which is where the rest of EvE logs into their community. Thereby we would become finally truly members of the EvE community. It's obviously totally up to CCP how they do this, but since they have to in any case, in order to preserve our accounts and give us "tiered recognition", I think it's a given. |

It's always amazing to think that CCP likes to act like a upright corporation in their fantasy worlds. When it's more like they are fishermen trying to be bankers prior to the economic recession. I was SO looking forward to Walking In Stations which was supposed to be the EvE-side version of Dust, where we Dusters could literally be transferred to a station and fight it out there, with support and logistics provided by EvE players with their ships and resources.
But EvE players unfortunately just saw it as a drain of resources both of their PCs and the development people, and largely wanted nothing to do with it. Even today, we can walk around our Captain's Quarters (almost identical to the Dust Warbarge Quarters but you can sit on the couch) and interact with it the same way as Dusters but one of our doors leads to our current ship, the other is "sealed" to avoid "contamination" from the atmosphere inside the station.... Yeah right.
Anyway, from the EvE perspective, Walking In Stations (Dust in Stations) died because noone in EvE wanted it, other than the few who saw the gem of opportunity in the idea of face-to-face commerce through kiosks on the Promenade. Everyone else just lambasted CCP for even dreaming of such a thing. They missed a really good opportunity I think, and so CCP abandoned that idea in favour of something else.
Likely we'll never see it again, although it's at least possible that it might see the light of day once Dust or something like it moves to PC.... |

Which informal fallacy are you referring to in particular?
So you claim to have seen me forum warrior. And you say differently about it? You probably saw a lot of praise I gave to CCP in the past but you if you did see me forum warrior then you should have also seen me take a **** on some of the things CCP did. Let me elaborate a bit on that with a few links on my past posts.
Hold on... digging to some archives. This might take a while. Thankfully ChribbaX keeps a very extensive archive of the forums dating back to even the very first post in Dust 514 forum history. I bet no one forum warriors more than this guy.
Gathered from the following search results: http://dustsearch.com/search/dust%20514%20keynote/page/21

[To CCP] Lessons Learned from Dust - Mistakes http://dustsearch.com/thread/168582/page/1#1 Note: Watch me take a **** on CCP at post #7. I hope you're watching this, CCP.
tell us whats going on http://dustsearch.com/thread/173754/page/1#13 Note: To quote CCP during the 2011 Jita Riots, "let's watch what they do, not what they say." Do not disappoint me again this year like you did in 2014.
Then there was this gem posted by The Guardian. This is where the "pssshhh" reference comes from. I'm sure CCP doesn't like to be reminded of this colossal failure, but I'll remind them anyways because I love CCP. Yes, here I am fanboying it. http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jun/05/world-of-darkness-the-inside-story-mmo-ccp-white-wolf
Prime example: http://dustsearch.com/thread/197603/page/1#8
rouge wedding = stupid http://dustsearch.com/thread/224404/page/2#47
So yeah, I didn't hold back with my criticism when the time came for me to vent out my frustration at CCP at the time. And it didn't help that CCP Z was not being helpful to the community when it came to coming up with sound ideas for Project Legion on the progression system. Many of us, including me, weren't very comfortable with his idea on how to setup progression. I posted my own idea of progression but then after that communications in the Project Legion forums just went dark... forever.
The only reason I stuck through was because CCP Rattati took over development. And apparently he's still in charge for NotLegion development according to one of the current CPMs. I think it was Darth Carbonite that mentioned it. Rattati utilized his team in a way that was suppose to have been utilized from the very beginning. Communicate heavily with the community, ask for feedback and use it, and more importantly show actual progress.
It's just too bad this all came too late for Dust. CCP made a huge mess with the game long before Rattati was given this position. It must have been annoying for him and his team to deal with legacy code that was built as a result of prior mismanagement. Overall, I'm glad they finally decided to start over and rebuild everything from scratch so as to not deal with it anymore.
Once May 30 comes and goes, you'll see me playing more Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on Steam. If you're into that game on the PC, send a friend invite. My name is still Maken Tosch in Steam.
Oh, and to CCP, again... don't disappoint me in this year's Fanfest. Remember the "pssshhh" and $1,000 jeans.
