I've never been a PC gamer and have zero skills when using a keyboard and mouse for FPS gaming.
But with Dust going to PC, I need to get lots & lots of practise in...
I'd prefer a game that I can just play off-line to get comfortable with the new controls...
(I did download Planetside2, but deleted it, as it was just too much to get into)
Any help / tips would be greatly appreciated...
thanks...

Personally I would recommend Blacklight Retribution for honing your PC skills.
It is very easy to get started in and has a nice practice area along with quickly becoming a fast paced twitch shooter that will get your skills growing for you.
Also be sure to invest in a gaming mouse that has a minimum DPI above 2000 tho I would recommend you go into the 5000+ dpi range. |

Long story short, the more DPI you get, the best mechanical precision you'll have and the fastest you'll move your cursor. With mouses with multiple dpi lvls, you dont need to go to the settings to emulate a cursor speed. You just mechanicaly change it, avoiding some "staircases" effects or drop effects ^^
Game over.

As for the OP, try far cry games! Great solo FPS and it'll be a good start to practice your aim !

This pretty much covers it.
The easiest way to think of it is that it is the sensitivity of the mouse.
A dpi of 100 and you may have to move the mouse itself several inches to cross the screen while a mouse with a DPI above 5000 will likely cross your entire screen with a small hinge of the wrist.
Make sure you get one that is adjustable as anything outside of a twitch shooter is pretty unpleasant above 2500 DPI thanks to the mouse actually moving too much for you to be able to double click while it is in the same position. |

CS:GO has some great community maps specifically made to practice your aiming.
training_aim_csgo2 and Aim Botz are probably the best to start with.
Just keep in mind that because CS:GO has had a competitive scene for a long time the game has had to hang on to what would be considered outdated mechanics. Only a few guns use aim-down-sights (grab the AUG for that) and recoil doesn't actually move the barrel/crosshairs up but rather the bullets start straying higher while the barrel/crosshairs stay level. It's hard to explain but you'll see what I mean if you give it a go.
Something is killing new player retention.

I recommend Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as well.
As for what mouse to have, I recommend the Logitech G602.
https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=logitech%20g602
It's a very flexible optical mouse with enough features to get you started for FPS on PC. It has enough DPI as LOOKMOM pointed out. It lets you adjust the DPI levels via the G10 & G11 buttons. And it will only cost you just a little over $50.
You can find it at your nearest Best Buy store.
One additional feature that the mouse has is the ability to switch from Performance mode to Endurance mode via the little switch located just behind the scroll wheel. Performance mode is what allows your mouse to be at its best which is important in fast-twitch environments but it takes up extra battery power. Endurance reduces your mouse's performance but increases the life of your battery.
It's what I use for CS.
