They probably said you can't use our stuff to make merch with, and or make or take money for said items.

Using CCPs intellectual property as well as their trademarked material.
Using CCPs own forums to advertise said items.
I can not for the life of me imagine why they would frown on it.
It would be nice if they let it slide thanks to the circumstances but that would set a dangerous precedent for Eve and for all future games. |

I just rechecked and the last person to post was General John Ripper.
Obviously his likes set off the like farming scam and triggered an auto lock. |

I checked out the site independent of the forums and the merch is still showing, but it's saying 3 more need to be preordered before it is available (that is at least the case with the dropship ones).
It says you don't get charged until enough are preordered and one is shipped to you. I have to wait until Friday but I plan to preorder a red dropship hoodie.
@CCP- I would also not mind buying stuff like this off you. People would say "hey, what's up with that shirt? Dust514?" and I would get a faraway look in my eye and say "........it was a game" and they'd say "oh yeah? Is it any good?" and I would stay silent for an uncomfortable length of time and say "that year of my life was a nightmare. Bodies everywhere. I couldn't stay off the forums. They wouldnt let me out of my quarters, I watched an Australian guy lose his sh*t. Then I lost my sh*t. There were taxes. Blue donuts. **starts crying** I COULDN'T CLIMB THE STAIRS SIDEWAYS!!!! THEY HAD CLACK SCOUTS (wink)!!!! NO ONE WANTED TO READ THE EULA/TOS, WE NEVER GOT FIGHTERS, I DEVELOPED SOME SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES (a lie, those were already present) AND WHAT THE F*CK IS A COMMAND NODE???!!!!"
By this point the person I was talking to would be long since gone, and I'd be in the fetal position, shaking in the corner. Then, as I was calming down by telling myself it was all a dream, I'd look down at my chest and see the dropship and Dust514 and I'd quietly say "........no.........", then I'd scream "NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO" like Luke did when he found out Vader was his father. Then I would slip into catatonic shock.
The lesson here is you could still get some of my money stuffs, CCP, before I am institutionalized. Make it happen. |

It sucks that CCP would care about some nuance like that.

It's a very safe maneuver from their point of view.
Letting someone post their brand on something, even for fan merchandise can set all sorts of awful precedents.
What's stopping them from making a fan made game with the same trademark, not for profit? They're not making money right, so it should all be good?
Until you realize that it could harm the brand if it turns out to be horrible. It has CCP's name on it. People will assume its a CCP product, even if its not.
Its for similar reasons that Disney won't let you slap their brand on things without talking to them first as well. They don't want to harm their brand.
Several People told legend to check with CCP in that thread. I'm guessing he did not, and CCP took it down.

I'm still lusting over that scrambler pistol one of the devs 3d printed awhile back. I'd seriously consider dropping $50-75 on one of those. |

They probably contacted Nintendo to make sure it was gucci, or they found use of a clever loophole.
Either that or Nintendo doesn't care.
I'm not entirely sure.
EDIT:
My guess is that Nintendo simply hasn't made a decision regarding showdown yet. IF THIS IS TRUE, that means that showdown could be taken down, at any time at the whim of Nintendo. They don't, because they like the free advertising. They don't acknowledge it, which means no precedent has been set. It would be in legal limbo until they decided to take action.
Please note, I am not a lawyer in any way shape or form. I'm sure I've got this wrong somewhere, but this is my guess about showdown.
