TL;DR - Go watch this video, they build a gaming PC for $300
I run squad finder squads a lot in game (The Royal Legion) and with the recent unfortunate but inevitable news that the game is closing itGÇÖs doors; I often hear players who have been consol players their whole gaming careers, who can't and won't see reason why they should join the master race. I hear excuses such as:
GÇ£Gaming PCGÇÖs are too expensiveGÇ¥ GÇ£I hate using a keyboard and mouseGÇ¥ GÇ£I have always been a console player and will die a console playerGÇ¥
All of this is pretty short minded and if you do some research into how today's consoles are manufactured; they are just small, overpriced PC components all compacted into small housing where you are paying more for name on the box rather than the overall components. Hell, if you really dont like using a keyboard and mouse; just use that trusty PS3/4 360/One controller...... yes you are gimping yourself for accuracy but learning to use a controller is way, way, way much harder to learn than a keyboard and mouse! I have only recently become a PC gamer myself as I found a really good deal on a low to mid level entry gaming rig which I have then since considerably upgraded (IGÇÖm sold on virtual reality) but I haven't come on here to brag, I wanted to inform.
I recently watched a short three episode series by a PC tech advisory youtube channel called GÇ£LinusTechTipsGÇ¥ where they each had a budget of $300 to build the best entry level gaming PC that they could source, with a 3 day time limit and what they each managed to build was pretty impressive! Not only was it cheaper than today's latest consoles and it was somewhat more powerful but this was also over a year old meaning those components they bought would now be considerably cheaper!
Anyway here's the link to episode 1.

Interesting... So how is it hard to learn to use a controller than a keyboard?

Yes I should have clarified.
What I mean is; a lot of PC players that I have spoken to who are not console players themselves, have a lot of respect for console players who use controllers for FPSGÇÖs because to get any decent level of accuracy, takes a lot of practice and dexterity in your thumbs. Whereas using a keyboard and mouse is more intuitive for our brains to process and easier to get used to.

Imagine trying to go from growing up on a controller to keyboard and mouse.....

Yes that price tag is all good and everything but that build doesn't include the housing or graphics card (GPU); meaning you won't be able to play any games without a GPU and the system could get easily damaged as it doesn't have any protective housing.

Better buy a console for $300. You'll get far better performances and won't bother with the buillding part + the OS install + all the drivers installs.
If you have at least $700 then it becomes interesting!

Great post. We should keep this bumped.
I'm hoping to build something in the near-ish future for Dust 2.0.
I already have quite a few steam games but few them are very demanding in graphics. I'll be upgrading pretty much specifically for the next Dust.
And as I've mentioned in a few other posts, we are currently building a steam group for Dust players planning to transition: "Survivors of Dust".
Swing by and join. We play various games together and try to host weekend events.

I like games though not all games and as such i feel that a PC & Playstation combo gives the best of both worlds. I would advise spending a little more on a gaming pc than the cost of a PS4 for instance, get a proper UPGRADE boys and girls. |

I don't think that Sequal was suggesting quite that but I take your point. That being said Sequal's point is mostly accurate. |

If you're not going used, at that price range you might as well get a console.
But yes, you can build some pretty cheap PC's. However, this only really applies to the US. Rest of the world has far more inflated prices for PC's. Consoles on the other hand, tend to retain a similar price tag, and as such are the better choice on the low end.
