So I connected my PC to my TV with my VGA cable and DVI adapter and for some stupid reason chose a resolution higher than my TV supports...
Now I can't revert to the normal resolution because I can't see the screen!
No, the screen didn't revert by itself after 20 seconds like it should have, and I don't know how to set the default resolution for the VGA cable again, I can't see anything.
Now I'm using the HDMI cable, and when I plug in the VGA cable to my TV aswell, I can choose which cable to use, and the PC thinks it's connected to 2 monitors. Problem is, if I choose to see the screen just on the HDMI cable, it works fine, but when I want to see it just on the VGA cable, I can't see anything and the TV tells me there's no signal.
When I Choose to extend the diplays (see the screen on both of the cables at the same time by switching between them with my remote) I see both screens. When I choose to duplicate the displays, I see the screen only on the VGA cable, but when I unplug the HDMI cable, the VGA screen disappears! WTF?
Help me, I need to set the default VGA resolution but I can't find out how.
I'm using Windows 10, stupidest settings bullcrap I've ever seen, can't do anything with them, I need your help and I don't have anywhere else to post this...

First question (i'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything) but why wouldn't you want to use HDMI over VGA converted to DVI iin the first place?
Secondly. have you tried to change your actual tv's settings? Is it a SmartTV?
Finally, you may want to look online to find a solution....it's possible that your TV doesn't support that video type. Like...it might have the DVI port, but doesn't actually support the VGA conversion.

Like...it might have the DVI port, but doesn't actually support the VGA conversion. 1. I want to use the HDMI cable for my PS3 and the VGA converted to DVI (because my internal VGA on the PC is not connected) so I don't damage the HDMI cable every time I pull it out of the PC and into the PS3, my last HDMI cable died because of this.
2. I tried resetting but all it does is reset the contrast, color, etc. No it's not a smart TV.
3. My TV supports the VGA converted from DVI video type, I had just used it but stupidly chose a too high resolution and it didn't revert back, so now it's stuck at the high resolution which my TV doesn't support and I can't change it.

Windows 10 ... sorry to hear that, however:
Safe mode?
Hold shift key down, click on power button, restart. Choose "Troubleshoot", "Advanced options", "Startup settings", "Restart", then either option 3 or 4.

EDIT after rereading.
Connect both cables and change the settings for monitor 2 and apply. If that makes the "second screen" show up through the VGA connection you should be all set to get rid of the hdmi. |

Basically this.. run in safe mode with networking (start it with your hdmi cable attached) then change to the other cable and from there change your default display settings.
Edit: Again not trying to be a smart ass or anything....but why not go buy a $10 HDMI cable and that way you have one for your pc and one for your ps3?

Also check your display adapter drivers and completely unhook the hdmi cable before a restart. This sounds like something that should not be happening as windows should not be accepting a higher than native resolution on that connection unless the native resolution is not being reported properly by your graphics chip. |

I need some more help though, it seems the screen is bleeding colors now, it looks like it's not sharp enough but I can't set the sharpness from the TV for some reason... there's no option for it when I switch to VGA, there IS an option for it when I'm on HDMI, what the hell?

Did you check to see if you had the ability to set windows to mirror the desktop on both screens.
It being blocked out but still showing up sounds as if windows is set to "disable this device"

Nvidia something, something, 1.0GB vidram. At work, so I'd have to look later, but its about 4-6 years old.
Edit: if still in safe mode, colors are crappy by nature of windows OS

I need some way to sharpen the display.

I saw the word VGA, checked the date then slowly walked away.
My Ps3 games don't play on my Atari 2600 either.

My bad (not fond of win 8/10, so I tend to ignore it as much as possible) - RClick desktop, LClick Display settings, Advanced Settings - set resolution to your choice (higher=more space, smaller icons/text) and/or set cleartype.

It sounds like the issue is the actual resolution not the sharpness. |

Yeah, I think increasing the resolution would fix the blur but I don't know how high my TV can go, I'm using 1920x1080 currently.

Exactly, but now I'm thinking about getting that HDMI switcher-adapter-thingy because the video quality through the VGA cable is crap compared to HDMI.
