Look at the game Angels Fall First... Draw on that gameplay for inspiration. The game is early access, and has flaws, but they really nailed the Sci-Fi Combined Arms combat gameplay.
You can fight ground battles, lead squads, 'FC' the battlefield, fly space ships, board each others vessels etc... They did it.
If you can 'draw inspiration' from those ideas, and keep the grand scale politics of New Eden, you'll have a winner.
In the meantime, everybody who enjoyed dust, Download this game.
We'll be playing it in the "Survivors of Dust" Steam group. Feel free to join us.

Check that out. Capital ship and fighter combat! And you can even fly a dropship into an enemy capital ship, and board it in FPS mode.

The guys developers behind Angels are much like the early CCP devs. They are doing this not because it is a job, but because they have a real vision for their game and want to make it a reality. That's why everything is working for them.
With CCP, you aren't really working on Dust because its your dream... you're doing it because it's your job. The ones who worked on EVE because it was their passion were either systematically fired off, or ended up quitting because they couldn't make a difference under the management conditions.
Dust will never be a game even close to Angels because there is no room for passion and vision to actually affect development at CCP. If Rattati had been there from the start and they had a dozen more guys who actually gave a damn like him, it might be possible.

Interesting opinion, however I'm really not sure you have grounds to say that.
If you look at the overall scope of Dust, it's something nobody has else has ever tried: combining a console FPS with a PC MMO, and releasing it for free with a fair f2p system. How can you say CCP has no passion or vision? Releasing a game like that is actually quite a bold move, and yes they were severely limited by the PS3, but you really should give them more credit.
Besides, whatever they did, they still have you here talking about a near-4 year old PS3 game

Don't do it, I got perma-banned for telling CCP what they should do in the new game and what mistakes they made in this one, including the negligence of bug fixing etc, they really don't like stuff like this.
They do NOT accept feedback at all, they silence you, delete everything you write and permanently ban you from their forums.
They will not listen, because they never did listen or we would not put up with bugs which have persisted for years with not so much as an acknowledgement from the developers.

What they did was a first for gaming, it is one-of-a-kind and it is commendable.
However I cannot give much credit to a company which leaves years old bugs in the game and permanently bans someone from their forums when you try to tell them, ignores all threads and posts about bugs and fails to acknowledge them, let alone address them, 3 years later.

This should do it

Also, when you find it, please feel free to post any good multiplayer games you know of that you think the group could get into. We were thinking of highlighting various titles on weekends and sort of coordinating games and looking for different ideas.

My opinions are based less on my personal experience, and more on those who have worked at CCP or been on the CSM over the years.
When everyone coming out of a rotating door all says the building is on fire, you tend not to question it. Especially when you see firsthand the continuous blunders that CCP as a whole makes publicly.
Speaking of doors, here's a useful one. https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/CCP-Reviews-E159347.htm
