I'm not getting VR just for Valkyrie, but you can get a gaming PC and play much more with it than Dust (PC).

Comparing apples and hand grenades, aren't ya?
The gaming PC is much more versatile and can be upgraded to continue playing your favorite games. Also fairly certain has a larger library of available games.

Also fairly certain has a larger library of available games. My point was less about the viability of systems (though the PS3 still has many great games, as well as access to many older games, just as the PC), and more about spending money on a new system for the sake of a CCP made game.

Not at the current price of the Oculus Rift. Great piece of hardware I'm sure, but not worth $600 to me. We'll see how much better Sony VR can do on the price point.

Your title says "screw PC for dust" yet you are posting links to bundles with PC's in them? Instrictions not clear,vr headset stuck in toaster. I'd rather not. I'll build my own thankyouverymuch.

Hypothetically, this new CCP shooter never gets made... you still have a great machine to play hundreds of other great games on.

But if you are getting the PC primarily for the sake of Phoenix, you'll be disappointed.
PC players, who already had access to all those games, and got a PS3, which also has more games than can be played in a decade, spent a lot just to be disappointed as well.
If someone already has a console, and has access to plenty of games, and they get a PC just for Phoenix, they are asking for trouble. If they can't justify a PC perchase without Phoenix, they are making the wrong decision.

I'd say I'm disappointed, but I'm more surprised than anything. You just seemed to be more collected.
Second, it is not even about "feeling confident in CCP". You get a gaming PC because it's a powerful toy with lots of potential. If CCP happens to follow through on this alleged New Eden FPS then great. If not, you still end up with the aforementioned powerful toy.
Did you miss CCP Rattati specifically replying to you in this thread? You seem to be operating under the assumption that somewhere CCP is laughing at players who were hoping Warlords 1.3 was going to be a thing. If you read Rattati's tone he was just as let down as you are. Obviously they worked on it, but for reasons that we may never know it isn't happening. My own guess is the new project is taking a higher priority than developing a patch for a game on a dying platform.

On this I can agree. I am not by any means demeaning PC gaming (though I often resent the sentiments of the PC elitist portion of that community). I am simply following logic. If you A because of B, and B has a significant enough chance of failure, then you will be disappointed. If you A because of C,D, and E, and B is just icing on the cake, then you are fine.
There are enough people that ONLY played Dust on their PS3. There are a lot of good games available still on the PS3, all the older Final Fantasies, they just had a sale on Chrono Trigger not too long ago. I personally bought the ME trilogy for 5 bucks on sale. Yet, the only reason they wanted a PS3 was for Dust. That was their choice, for whatever reason.

My own guess is the new project is taking a higher priority than developing a patch for a game on a dying platform. ...which by the way, is a good thing. I hope they dedicate as much time and resource as they can to this new FPS on PC. I generally am more collected, however, no one is completely objective. I will explain my salt shortly.
I did not miss Rattati's post, however, I did not respond because I was highly emotional at the time, and wouldn't have said anything positive, or productive, so I let it be. I had even thought to make a whole new post on GD just as a response to the comment, but at that point it felt to ego centric, as I really don't think what I have to say on the topic matters any longer.
As far as the Salt goes....
Looking back at how things were handled when Rattati took over, there was always the managing of expectation. When we only had hotfixes, we were repeatedly told that updates were not likely. They made sure to Under Promise and Over Deliver, which is generally a good means of doing things. Fast forward to the days, weeks, and months of silence, which you yourself resented and often spoke loudly about, and for good reason.
During that time, there was no tempering of expectation. We were never told they couldn't promise 1.3s release, but that they would try. Had I heard that, I would have adjusted my expectation accordingly.
I am not one to trust easily, and when I saw that Rattati was working on 1.3, I believed it enough that anytime Tinfoilers came around with one insanity or another, I would always defend it (though obviously in hind sight that was arrogant, if not stupid on my part).
After seeing Frame's post, I felt an idiot. Spending all that time sticking around, (arrogantly?) defending Rattati's work on 1.3, looking forward to one last update before Dust dies...
You see, I am one of the many, for various offline reasons, who will be unable to follow to PC. I suspected the PC version was coming, and it made the most sense. I do not begrudge those that will be willing and able to move on to Phoenix.
I just can't be one of them, even if I was willing. Which is why 1.3 meant so much to me, considering the 3 years I have played this game, and all those hours I spent on the forums giving my input, for whatever little that was worth.
I had never been this personally involved in a game, and you are not wrong for saying this wasn't objective, because it wasn't, it was very personal. And if all that adds up to being Salty, I hope you can understand my position, and that of those who can't follow for whatever reason.

I only need a video card update. I still have to do some research on this whole thing because my setup is not really friendly with whats out there and I would rather not spend 12 - 1300 dollars running dual 980s just to have the ports I needs.
No I will not be bothering with Valkyrie because I am not pre-ordering the Oculus and over paying by 1 - 200 dollars when I can wait a month after it comes out and get it cheaper with more titles available. |
