Watch "Eve-Online Fanfest 2009 - Dust 514 Demo (Part 1)" on YouTube https://youtu.be/ED-YF-v7WCw
Open worlds, modable mcc, player placed installations, ect. First demo of dust was on pc. Every promise broken and piece of content missing was due to the failure of the ps3 not ccp. I have hope for the new pc game looking back on this rough draft.

Just started PC gaming again. For us mainly console guys n gals it's hard to switch. Money, the feel since its mkb. It's two very different worlds but it's true, you can open it up more in an never ending way like EVE. I like many others don't like the way they went about announcing it. Here's to hoping we get a true version to that vision that grabbed our imagination a few years back. |

I'm a strict console gamer. Many advantages at launch of a cinsole in price and OPTIMIZED gaming experience, not that a well built pc won't obviously out perform. The tech you get for your buck is pushed far enough compared to a pc of a similar price that's running multiple programs. Simply put consoles are streamlined well enough for me. I probably sound very ignorant here as I'm not an expert.
The ps3's life was just too long. The idea of the game could never be truely supported. The pc is the best choice for the concept of this game it's undeniable. I don't even know if I'll follow. Not to say that I don't want to. I'm just saying that the ps3 was a terrible choice for the game and is why 90% of it is missing.
Yes I'm upset it's ending but obviously it was an impossibility on this console and the full idea still wouldn't be recognized on the ps4. On pc they will be able to constantly expand the game in ways they never could on a console which will inevitably age poorly.
I know the draw backs of consoles, though it is my preferred means of gaming. I'm just glad the idea of what dusty was SUPPOSED to be isn't forgotten and they'll continue working on it. The failure of dust was the ps3.

You can't blame everything on the ps3.
Performance wasn't the only problem with the game. Even then, maybe not having 5 km on each side of the battlefield render was a poor choice.

The PlayStation 3 is in no way to blame for the state of Dust 514. There are numerous companies that have built games with more functionality and in one particular case FAR higher player count on the PS3.
The state of Dust 514 rests solely on CCP. The development team was mismanaged from top to bottom and the foundation the game was written on was rotten from the start.

It was decided, and obviously so, that it was going to pc 2 years ago. Yes it is upsetting that it's dead here. But with all the negative posts I'd just b like to point out that it wasn't all ccp and the game was never intended to be just another lobby shooter.

Also, please give me an example of a game sharing a server with another game while being as ambitious as the ORIGINAL idea of dust and succeeding on console. It would have taken a dedicated server of it's own and not the heavily modified version of the unreal engine used. CCP did not enjoy their time on console.

If you had been part of this communty for any length of time you would know this a troll post.
This was exact moment the communty back then new somthing was up. As it was all bullshit over promising by an ED. Who a year later was kicked. That man basicly derailed the whole project and ccp had been fighting since to recover.
But this is why "laser focused" is a scathing insult that makes any vet twitch and froth at the mouth.
It's also why rattai is cagy about confirming anything new unless they know they can deliver on it.
But don't ***** about presentations made 7 years ago.

Let's not forget this was CCPs second game, first time on console(and a hard to code one), first FPS, and they've had horrible management for a long time. There's a reason CCP has only had one successful game thus far. Literally any other major gaming company could've done a better job, the fact this game looks and performs like a 2nd or 3rd year Ps3 game is alarming.
Imagine if CCP actually hired guys like from Naughty Dog, Activision, or Guerrilla to code/create the game....

It's one thing to hire the best technical talent out there, and a much harder thing to manage the project and game design correctly. Imo this is where CCP showed its greatest weakness - the inability to provide meaningful oversight, guidance and support to the dev team when and where needed, and to get out of the way of the dev team when not needed.
It also appears, to this merc, at least, that marketing was given undue influence over development choices while the game was still under development, a recipe for disaster always, moreso when the IP is New Eden.
Some things have changed at CCP since then and some things haven't - they could very well repeat their mistakes with Dust 2, may have already repeated them since they're developing [i]in camera[/]. There were indications with Legion that marketing was being awarded a significant role in generating game design and player experience content.
