Also, there is also a good (and sometimes horrid) community in the other game CCP created, EVE Online. I suggest checking it out.

Hello, this is my first post despite playing the game for years. I've never been on the forums much but I'd like to leave something here considering the game is shutting down soon.
This is probably the most social game that I've been a part of, it brought me a lot of happiness when I was otherwise feeling bad and gave me the first step to curing some real life social issues that I had. The first corporation I was in, Ultramarine Corp, was really fun to be a part of because of the players around me, even a few of the members sang me happy birthday. In that corporation I got to be a Director and be part responsible for Planetary Conquest when the game was still new and very alive. I don't think another game is going to have the experience again of making me feel like a part of a large community that I can hang out all the time with anytime soon, most new games don't even have chat rooms.
With that said, this community is also REALLY horrid. From sending life threatening hate mail, harassing people when they discuss problems on forums (B1ack ice, anyone?) to throwing "weeaboo" insults, homophobia, and misogyny everywhere just to be really offensive. You guys are.. not enjoyable to be around or read about to say the least.

Anyway, here is a list of some people that were enjoyable! They're the people that I spent the most time with that were part of making my Dust experience a positive one.

Viscen Minora (You taught me how be competitive with all of the ideas you had and your energy showed how much effort you put in them! I still think you were a better player than what you give yourself credit for. PS: YOU'RE nice.)

E-Rock (You are the pü¢péôpü¦püä that noticed me! You immediately make every squad more fun to be in and anyone that doesn't agree is wrong. E-Rock µ£ÇT½ÿn+ü)

Mieli Sydan (I'm glad that we can keep playing new games together, you've always been a great team player!)

Kiriasis Draca (Always really nice to me from when we first met, I liked whenever you went "Blaaaaze~"!)

DozersMouse XIII (A quiet person but a REALLY good player. He'll speak up when something isn't right though.)

LowerThan SnakeShip (I'm pretty certain that no one in this game is a better dropship pilot than you! Or has a cooler pilot voice.)

ROCKO THE HELLHOUND (You quit a long time ago but you were always a funny person to joke around with. Good memories!)

A big thanks to anyone that complimented how I played as well! (Be it shotgunning, scrambler rifling, team work, or just being a scout in general.) You motivated me to keep practicing and get better at it. As for the compliments about my voice, it was news to me and made me realize for the first time that I apparently have a really nice voice, haha. I'm just glad it didn't go so far to be placed on one of the Dust514 forum voice rankings, it makes me feel bad to see people judged with something that shouldn't be competitive.
RIP my Dust clone 2013/06/26 - 2016/05/30 Hopefully it will be carried on to future projects instead of doomed to be biomassed by CCP. I'll be around until doom day drops.

I'd like to play at least once too before the servers go down, even though I'm not used to the controls of Dust now from being away so long.

DUST's community is one of the least toxic, most supportive I have encountered in the FPS genre.

I have played a lot of online games of various genres. I agree though, I haven't played many FPS online, so I assume this community is better than some but I still know of some other bad communities to compare it to. (If you play any games related to anime, you can very easily dive into creepy-town.) But never have I on any other game received hate mail regularly, or mail threatening to bash my skull in and various other things because I killed their character a lot. There are also more things I've heard from my friends about real life threats from players on this game. You get more well known in the game, you get more people that hate you.

So yeah, there are supportive people that exist in this game. But that doesn't make up for how many awful ones there are to call the community as a whole, "supportive" in my opinion.

Familiarize yourself with GIFT (Greater Internet ******* Theory).

Video games are often competitive. Some people, especially immature people, cannot handle that stress. When they lose they lash out. Now, I'm not forgiving their behavior, just explaining it. If someone is actually making death threats just report them to CCP. They will usually be harshly dealt with; CCP don't play with asshats who claim they are going to stab your family.

Returning to the topic of DUST, there are people who git mad. So? Every gaming community has those people. Use in-game block/ignore features, report them to CCP if they are too abusive, then move on with your life.
