Ever get that feeling? When you've accomplished something so monumental that you feel you just beat the game? With this character I did.
It was the 514 KILLS challenge. I had just accomplished the mission on my main and still wanted more. So I raised the bar for myself and decided to "CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!" again!
This time running solo.
In starter fits!
When I started this game two years ago at the tail end of 1.7 I was BAD! But I refused to let this game and all its scrubs get the better of me and make me leave because I couldn't handle it: Challenge Accepted!
I am not a slayer. I always wanted to reach that level, wanted my great games to happen every match, to fight in a PC and be feared, but input lag and connectivity held back my improvement, relegating me to being just decent.
This is my original toon with only 9mil SP allocated over too many skills for any to be effective, so to me, attempting to beat this challenge on this character was a way of pushing my skills to their limits, a way of being, for once, more than just decent.
So I fit a Gallente Frontline with a basic magsec and a few mlt modules, mixed in some Amarr Frontline and a Memnon GA Assault picked up in battle for a bit and for the next two days, without any squad, had at it. Within 10 matches I went from fighting noobs to taking on all the familiar big names and corps. I single handedly guaranteed victory in many, played major role in others, faced full proto suits 1v1 and rekt em, dropped multiple 30 bombs and watched my KDR climb from .46 to .69 in two days!
These were some of the most intense, even and hard fought matches I'd ever play. And then, when I thought I had done it, I looked at kill count and saw 513. One more kill!
That last match was the TOUGHEST match of them all and my side was quickly redlined. It seems almost poetic, though, as it took the ENTIRE match for that one last +50. But that one kill was the MOST EXCITING KILL I EVER MADE! I jumped up and yelled aloud in victory! Went to the daily missions and checked--- 514 KILLS, went to leaderboards to check weekly kills---514....Exactly 514!
I did it. And at that moment I had an overwhelming feeling that I had just beaten DUST 514. I had given it everything I had, everything my skills could accomplish, and maybe just a bit more...AND WON!
And the there was this feeling; I could walk away from this game right then and there knowing I had conquered it.
Were I still strictly a solo player, I would have. But just over a year ago, almost exactly a year after I started, I was convinced to finally come out of my shell, join a corp and get on coms. zDEMONCAKE invited me to join HORIZONS' EDGE where I met some of the coolest people in the game and had more fun than I thought could be had in gaming. Thanks DEMON, I'm forever grateful, you rock!
Hi, I'm StarVenger , also Meisterjager Jagermeister, on my other alt. SCREWCRUSHER PUNCH is the corp I finally made with the corp skill I purchased just before joining HxE. Now that the game is ending I wanted cross off my bucket list creating my solo corp I had planned. I haven't used this character since that 514th kill, but I think I'll run him a few more just to see the corp in the leaderboards bfore its all over.
so how about you, ever have that I BEAT DUST 514 feeling?
