Welcome to another in my series of long winded reviews of the DUST New Player Experience from a long time EVE player perspective. Get your coffee kids, and let's settle in around the crackling flames of this burning Viper in the middle of the road...

Good read. I have never played eve past trial. But have been with dust from day one. Due to the nature of the beast, we all started as fps ragemonsters.
But as it grew I realized the potential for actual tactics. Since corps were introduced I have been doing overwatch/fc for many successful campaigns. I had over half a year as fc for caldari fw (remember when they were winning?)
More corps could benefit from a standard call chart. I think I may begin a crowdsourcing for common names to get everyone on point.

I have a pet saying in work scenarios, "It's more important that we're consistent than what our consistency is." Applies pretty well to this topic. As long as everyone is speaking the same language, it doesn't make a difference what the words are. The communication barriers / fuzzy language is what kills squad coordination.
But that's important for the average grunt as much as for a squad lead. "There's a guy hacking over here!" is a totally useless statement.
- Red or blue guy? I mean, seems like a silly question, but really it doesn't specify. Could be a friendly hack.
- What's he hacking? In some scenarios, your tanker might want a red to hack an installation so it can be taken out.
- And the most obvs question: Where's here?? I don't know who said that or where you are right now. Describe it in cardinal directions from a known landmark.
"Redberry hacking the CRU by the pipes towards red MCC" It's not perfect in terms of directions but it gives specific information efficiently, and is a good eyes report that informs the squad. Good intel like this can make a big difference tactically. |

That was a very interesting read. Thanks.
If you're still looking for ideas on stuff to try out: Make sure you used the flexibility of your suit properly before spending SP prematurely. Especially with the GalAss you have the abilty to make some interesting playstyles happen. One of my favorites is a high-regen fitting with a TacAR, which basically plays like a Caldari assault.
Personally I'm currently working on a high-regen Amarr Sentinel with a Forgegun and precision enhancer. Because I use it to slay infantry. In CQC. That's pretty much as far removed from racial playstyles as it gets, but it really is a lot of fun.
One of my main enjoyments in this game is the amount of flexibility a suit can give you, so if anything I recommend getting creative. |
