Planetside 2 is quite enjoyable, and yet, it seems as if Dust managed to retain its' playerbase. I've been mulling this over for awhile now and can't seem to come to any conclusions that would even hint at a reason Dust managed to keep anyone at all. Just two days of playing and from what I can tell, Planetside 2 is better in almost every way, with Dust only having ease of access (Dust and ease of access together? No, you can't have the drugs I'm on...) and a superior melee system (Actually missing my Nova Knives a bit) In terms of everything else though, from the gunplay the the environments... heck, even the customization seems like it's on par with Dust's... so what gives? What is it about Dust that keeps players coming back when there are better games out there? Er... aside from some of the awesome people met during the torture.

I hate planetside absolutely hate it plus I have a Xbox one instead Golpe! How goes it? Personally i thought id really enjoy Battlefront but i really DONT. Tried PS2, i like it, & Blacklight. Also you can't really compare the two so i don't. Lets just say certain elements of PS2 are why i still play Dust.
Dust and PS2 actually feel rather similar, though... come to think of it, PS2 is reminding me more of MAG than Dust... maybe that's why I'm enjoying it so much. Even the knifing feels pretty close. Shame you didn't like Battlefront though, it's a fun game series, though I suppose those types of battles aren't for everyone. Which one did you try, if I may?

Richard Gamerich-R wrote:I don't agree at 100%, compared to DUST, for me PS2 has a very bad level design, and is not a persistent world as DUST.
Do you have a mode comparable to the Planetary conquest? Do you have a skill list comparable to DUST? Do you have an universe comparable to New Eden? (and all the background etc.) Do you have the teamplay like the DUST teamplay ? (seriously when you have 300 people on the field in the same area, I'm sure the teamplay is not really here, if you see what I meant) Do you have the communication system comparable to DUST? (many chats in the same time, vocal system etc.) Do you have a community comparable to DUST? (we can say everything of that, in bad and in good, but clearly for me it's the best experience that I did in my video game life)
I played a little at Planetside 2, and of course the part of the FPS gameplay works better (because first it's on the ps4, and also it's a old FPS franchise so fortunately the gameplay is fun), but well, fot me, when you touch a game like DUST, it's hard to found or maybe impossible to get a game as rich as DUST, and just for that it's the only reason I stay here.
Nothing like Planetary Conquest that I know of, only been playing for about 5-7 hours or so though, so I dunno. The skill list though... eh, it's not the same as Dust, but I'd be inclined to say it's on par. There are quite a few upgrades that boost your health/resistances/ammo capacity/etc... and the customization with your characters gives you a lot more options than most shooters I'm used to. You can't brick tank a scout or speed tank a heavy, but you can still boost your stats up a bit. The background lore though, I can see that. I don't know if PS2's world has any history, but I know Dust has some major lore, and as for teamplay, it's there, if you get a squad together. It works the same as in Dust or MAG, just on a much larger scale, though of course it'd be harder to get such a large group organized, I'm sure there are people who enjoy that sort of thing. I just haven't found them yet, though I haven't even left the game's version of the academy yet, so go figure. Not sure about the communication system though, there's a chat box available and voice chat is there but I've yet to use it. Turned it off after some little kid got on, so not much different from Dust's team chat from what I can tell. No clue about the community... Dust's is probably one of a kind though... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...
I just wish I could get the same enjoyment still out of Dust that you do. Alas, bittervet syndrome has taken my mind. I still hope CCP advances this game to the levels it deserves though, even if my love for it has diminished, that potential hasn't faded... it just needs a good prod.

It is rather enjoyable getting kills in Dust, though I've yet to notice any bugs or glitches from PS2. Haven't even gotten stuck in the terrain or randomly died for no reason.

DUST Fiend wrote:It's definitely a different game. DUST is a feel good shooter, once you get into your little clique with some skill points and ISK it's difficult to lose, especially since all these squads drop the second any real competition comes up.
Plus PS2 requires a PS4 or PC and well....
Also I guess you could say lack of persistence but I mean, the persistence here is shaky at best. Yea, it exists, but it doesn't really effect anyone.
Good point there. I don't think PS2 let's you get quite the feel from progression as Dust, though I haven't played enough to form a fair opinion on that yet. And yeah... I suppose not everyone wants a PS4 or feels like investing in a PC powerful enough to run the game properly.
Persistence though... it seems to be about the same in most games like this. Nothing really changes throughout the game's life cycle, unless new maps are introduced, and while the progression systems are nice and all, unless you start up your own corp and watch it grow, there's not much sense in actually moving forward towards any goal. It's just battle after battle after battle. We don't even get game changing events anymore like Caldari Prime.

One Eyed King wrote:That is your opinion.
I got in fairly early to the PS2 closed beta, and I found the game largely boring. Even during the part wherw they opened up the gear to us temporarily, I found little to enjoy about the game.
It seemed more about who could outnumber whom than anything else. Battles felt pointless, individual roles felt diluted amongst large numbers. The factions felt generic and bland.
Sniping was the only redeeming quality to the game, and it was not enough to keep playing it.
I had high hopes for it, and got my PS4 when I did in large part because of PS2, but have played Dust more regularly and recently than PS2, and hope to play it again when it improves.
As for PS2, I deleted it over half a year ago, and don't regret it one bit.
Like everything else I suppose, it rides on personal preference. I can see why the roles would feel less special given the large numbers though. It's hard to feel like you're needed when there's a few hundred other players capable of doing the same job you're doing. I'm curious how the game felt back then versus how it feels now though. Shame you didn't enjoy it, but to each their own.

Well everyone, thank you all for the replies. They were most insightful, and I only hope that Dust gets the attention it deserves so everyone can continue to enjoy the game... lag free, of course.

I feel like a derp now. I thought you said "Battlefield" XD Nah, that game is meh. Visually appealing and about nothing else. Still, came with the PS4, so it's not all bad. I probably should have tried to get one with Battlefront instead of CoD.
