Could they at least give Dust 1K to fix these pov servers. No. That's not the way corporations work. They have decided to let Dust die, so they're not spending another cent on it. They tell us they are so the few that are left stay playing - every cent spent is profit. But they're not putting another cent's worth of effort into it. Like it or not, Dust is dead.

I know.
Just wait how many people will play their valkyrie with all that super duper VR. That will be funny to compare ;)

Well, it's not like CCP only has a budget of 30M for everything - it's just what they have secured and will allocate towards VR development.
There is some budget to continue Dust 514, but I'm fairly certain that after 1.3 drops AUR purchases will pay for server costs to keep it up.
This push on VR, in my opinion, GOOD for this community. Not for Dust 514 in particular, but definitely for it's successor. The facts we know is that Legion is a project that they are most likely still working on, and that it will be for PC. The Occulus Rift REQUIRES a PC, so not only are the funds a commitment to VR, but also PC development.
Dust 514 seemed like a testing ground for both console development and a FPS. They've learned their lessons, and now it's time to take that knowledge and apply it to what they are already exceptional at - the PC.
This is pure speculation, but I feel that CCP has determined that while console gaming is a good platform, it's extremely limiting and there are too many external variables they don't have control over which degrades player experience. Take the issues with the PSN network going on right now for example.
This push for PC development puts more control back in the hands of CCP and enables them to deliver a more flexible and stable product. |

Also, AFAIK, CCP does not have the Dust 514 server(s) in house - they use the 3rd party provider. And the issue is not the server hardware, but the PSN network.

Honestly i think otherwise, i actually think it is nonsence.
It is same story like with tablets some time ago. There was great marketing push for them and what we can see now?
It is basicaly useless thing and i feel same about VR.
Not much people will go for full platform of VR and just few will buy occulus. If some will go for it they will stand in circle of cheap cellphone mutations.
ergo
There is nothing good for comunity from that at all. Maybe for company what can make few Gé¼/$ more, but over all VR will not surpass console or pc gaming on monitors for sure. In 80s there was push for VR too, original push and it was lost in time. This new VR will ends same way.

I think I agree with this. It's a fad. VR will be amazing technology, but it's too expensive for most people and it may never take off as a result. Eventually, of course, it will be commonplace, but that may be so far into the future that CCP doesn't exist anymore. Well, they probably will, because EvE probably will still be around, but all these fads - PS3, OR, they will all have gone by the wayside.
VR is a fad. I think it unlikely to become what CCP clearly has set its sights on. |

If you think dust is "Dead" why are you on the forums? Because I'm interested in what's happening, and I would love to see CCP give us a glimmer of hope that I'm wrong. But the longer this persists, the more convinced I am that CCP has turned its back on Dust.
If and I do mean "if", CCP actually does release 1.3, depending on what's in it, that may change my opinion. |
