Been playing for about a month so far, developed a few basic suits (sniper, assault, and scout). Don't really understand how corps work, or how the connection to eve plays to dust? Any advice on developing suits would be helpful, what to put where and why. Also vehicles, I've just been using the basic fits, what are good combos for LAB, HAV, drop ship? Also looking for contacts to add. Please and thank you ADD: what are good combos, commando for laser rifles? Sentinel for sniper? Scout for shotgun? Those kinds of things I'm also curious about. |

I suggest you to leave vehicles. They are for experienced players with spare SP and ISK. Experiment with different suits, make new fits and test them. Find what you like.
Making different fittings and testing them allows you to understand the game better. Invest SP in two core skills. They are in dropsuit upgrades and they increase your PG/CPU capacity.

Feel free to add me as a contact! Also, another channel you might want to join along with the suggested would be:
Learning Coalition
A lot of new players can join this channel to ask vets questions they may have about the game.
As for fits, it's always good to try and run something that synergies with the suit well. The laser rifle works well with the Amarr Assault or the Amarr Commando because of their bonuses toward laser weaponry. The Caldari Commando gives a bonus toward sniper rifles.
But that's the thing about Dust 514: you can customize however you wish. If you want to run a suit with nothing but Powergrid and CPU modules, have at it (though I think that would be a bit of a waste). Nothing but electronics on a Logistics? Go right ahead (a friend of mine did this to take advantage of the Logistics passive scan range). Shotguns for scouts only? How about on a Minmatar Assault (pretty powerful right now) or how about on a Gallente Commando for a damage bonus and an unexpected CQC surprise for anyone coming up close to you?
We can give you ideas and helpful hints to optimize and get the most out of your suit, but don't be afraid to experiment with some crazy ideas too.
To echo what Mejt0 said: I would focus on working on your infantry skills first and foremost. Vehicles are expensive and when your ISK runs dry and you have no vehicle assets left, what then? Having those infantry skills will allow you to ground and pound for little to no cost, allowing you to build up your ISK to get your vehicles again. Not having those skills will only hurt in the long run.
To put your question about corps into simple terms: Think about them as Guilds or Clans. Corporations can be used for various reasons beyond that however, such as joining together to conquer the universe through Planetary Conquest - a special game mode that allows you to conquer other player's land and even defend your own conquered land. Alliances are simply a group of Corporations which allow you to operate on a higher level than just a corporation.
Hope that helps! Also, be sure to check out my signature which has a link to various guides and other helpful bits of information. Good luck out there. o7

There is a lot to be said about fits that synergize well: Shotgun Scouts, Main Rifle Assaults, Logi's with Mass Drivers. There is also something to be said for asymmetrical fits: Caldari Commando with a hive and 1 Sniper Rifle and 1 Tactical Sniper Rifle, or a scout with a laser rifle.
Here's my simple advice:
Figure out how well you can aim and then find something: Bad Aim - Mass Driver --- Decent Aim - Anything --- impeccable aim - Sniper or Bolt Pistal The better your aim, the longer distance of engagement, which decides next:
Figure out your required level of mobility: Don't care - Heavy Suit --- balanced - Medium --- must have - light suits The faster you are, the more you can use the level to your advantage which dictates your tanking style:
Figure out how much eHP you need to survive a common encounter: You're zippy - Shield tank --- a little of both - dual tank --- you like to wade into melee - Armor Tank So now that you know your engagement profile and effective range determine your core competencies:
You have a suit that can survive and thrive with your play style, now add some flavor: You like to dictate range - throw on some biotics --- you like to be more aware - throw on electronics --- you like to support your fellow players - add a lot of equipment Now that you've decided what flavor you want to specialize in:
Figure out what suit's skill complement or compensate for your engagement style: Amarr - Balanced with good eHP Minmatar - Balanced with good speed Caldari - good sensors and shields Gallente - good stealth and armor
Now that you can consider the class (H/M/L) of your suit and your role (logi/assault/scout/sentinal/commando) you can make a lot of variations using the militia gear available to you. Try these for a long time, saving money and isk while you do this, and then get ready to make some semi-permanent decisions!
Other tips: The core skills give you good bonuses to all suits, don't forget them You can always branch out later level 5 of skill costs way more than lvl 3 don't ever go over level 3 in a skill unless you are sure or it's a core skill
now that you've got your suit, work on your tactical skills and refine how you play and survive.
Happy hunting

Thank you all for the advice I have been playing pretty much daily. Have finally reached loyalty 2. I got the basics with the suits down finding what fits my play style. As far as vehicles I've pretty much dropped those except for the starter baloch that thing moves lol. I see slot of people buying items and I have stuff like Thales and Archduke suit. How do I determine fair price for these? Still trying to figure out what to do with shattered heat shield and stuff. Sell? Again thank you for taking time out of your day to help a boon with some questions. |

There were rumors about those components becoming materials for making a desired piece of experimental or officer gear, but right now, they are just to sell for a small increase gain of ISK.

Wow! Some of the best Newberry advice quick-posts I've seen in the Rookie Training Section in months! No, "get the Apex-4V suit, stack two Kit-cats and an Advanced rail who-ha!", and no "max your core PG, max your core Armour, and max....!" The advice here has been right on target.
Nevermind all the previous Chat Channels and corps for learning----the best teachers here on this site ought to break away and form their own splinter corp for profit. This is New Eden, after all. This game is about "Profit" and wealth-management. If Kaze and others christen their own "martial arts" school and recruited only Newberrys who can be trained into elite students who fight only for the school----we (ur, err, I mean YOU teachers could rule have the star clusters, and made tons of ISK from Capsuleers.
We train you into a particular skill of your choice. You fight for us, and only for us. Those students who appear lacking in focus or loyalty, are asked to leave before we teach them too much.
...Like a Dust Jedi Academy.

1. Items often go up in value, if you have officer gear you may want to hold onto it, otherwise use this table for rough-reference: Experimental Weapon: More than 100k Officer Weapon: More than 250k Officer Suit: More than 750k
2. Sell 'salvage' if you need the isk, otherwise you're betting on a future-feature related to manufacturing
3. You can fit a basic Dropship for around 45k to get mobility, if you evemail me I'll send you 500k to get you flying.
Remember too that your starting race doesn't prevent you from using suits of all races
