I'm looking to buy an SSD for my ps3, I might use it on something else when dust dies but I would like to know if this SSD will work and fit on my Super slim ps3 KINGSTON HyperX Savage SSD 240GB

Watch tuto on internet to see how to instal your drive and the ps3 system on the drive, but I have an advice for you... don't buy a too expensive SSD, the PS3 is limited physically by the SATA 1 (150MB / s), and the worst SSD will always be faster than the SATA 1...
I have a SSD too, I bought it for 50$ (120go). If you play only DUST, 30/60g0 is clearly enough, if you need more go, try to buy the ssd with the best ratio go/$. As I say before, the best and the worst SSD don't make any difference in the PS3 (because SATA 1). It's my secondary account damn I didn't see I was on.

It has 12GB of flash memory for its "hard drive", and works like a dream. An SSD is fundamentally flash memory, so that's what you're doing if you're adding an SSD - installing flash memory.

The flash memory on those 12gb versions is quite possibly the slowest flash memory in existence. |

SATA 3 is backwards compatible with SATA 1 and 2 so yes, will be fine. |

When selecting what size drive to go with be sure to consider your future application.
If you plan to move it to a PS4 or a laptop later go with a 250gb.
If you plan to throw it in a tower as an OS drive or have no planned use go with a 128 and save yourself some money. No need to spend what you don't need to on a console that is so outdated and likely dead long before the drive will be.

It might not be as fast as an SSD but it does the job.
Makes me think that Dust was optimised by CCP for the SuperSlim PS3, because it works fine on it. That actually makes quite a deal of sense when you think about it. Game developers usually build to the latest version of the hardware that it's going to run on, and in this case, it's the SuperSlim PS3 with its 12GB of flash memory. |
