In order to save your console's, and server's, resources.
Long ago vehicles never despawned and it did create both types of lag. This was especially evident during early closed beta, Replication build, when queueing a single vehicle there would be another bolas right after bringing a new onto the first. Then another. And an another.
Infinite Gunnlogis. On top of each other. A Pyramid of Gunnies. A pile so high the bolas no longer could reach the same point without knocking the top of the pyramid down, scattering the gunnies....
Oh what a sight.

Oops I got carried away. But the point was there was severe lag of both types as the physics enginge tried to juggle the pile.

There is a vehicle limit.
That's why they explode, so there are not abandoned cars across the map preventing people from calling stuff in for the entirety of the game.
