Should i keep all prototyoe items or sell?? Had 37$ on my own account from a while back, so I grabbed a couple bundles and ended up with a lot prototype stuff. Could have around 2 or 3 mill isk if I sold it all. I was planning on keeping the stuff that falls in the path I'm going but I have dropsuits and weapons that I really did not plan on using. R they so valuable that I should make use of them or is it best to sell and get some much needed isk for skills? |

Hello, KUSH. Before you accept anyone's advice about how to play this game, CONTINUE reading up on stuff. It is the only legitimate way to actually learn what you're getting into, BEFORE you step into it and waste so much of your gear and resources.
Eve DUST 514 is meant to take a long time (no, seriously, LONG) to effectively unlock and master. There are no cheating paths to learning and gaining the SP (skillpoints) you'll need to grow.
DON'T start walking around with all sorts of prototype weapons. That's a trap the game sets for you, based on the old habits you learned from playing your other shooting games. In this game, you get killed just as fast and often carrying a golden proto cannon as you do carrying a Militia gun.
So much of the reasons and secrets why things in this game work the way they do, is based on storyline folklore that the creators made up, and based on techniques/methods we players devised during gameplay.
So, with these 3 ideas in mind,
Right now, sell your pototype gear. You will need ISK to stay active in combat. This means SELL back to the game---don't try TRADING stuff with other players (you're too young, and it will only get you victimized). I'm serious, DON'T trade stuff with anyone!
Click on all the threads on this first page of Rookie Training Grounds section (including my Welcome to your Roles thread).--- Then, go in the game and use the Chat channels to socialize as much as possible with other players, to find people you can enjoy working with as a team, and trusting for advice. NewEden is always a trustworthy place.
Have a lot of fun using Militia equipment and suits. Practice with them a lot, and learn why each one works. A player who knows how to beat you with militia guns is more worth having on our teams than some player who is only effective using her expensive proto toy.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

Kush, being a vet myself. it can be very easy to fall victim to others in game that take advantage of new players, add a channel to your chat... named "Learning Coalilition" (check spelling). That channel is dedicated to and for new players, as with any other game have fun, be respectful, and ask any question. All of us are here for the same thing, to play the game but if you don't speak up we wont know how we can help you. Its a fun game. Hope to see you soon.

Proto is more expensive than what you will get if you sell it and you'll want to use it in the future.
Run cheap fits and a good squad and you should be able to make a lot of isk quickly.

Hey Kush! I saw you joined us in Dust Uni. I'll contact you in game to give you some more advice. Everyone here gave great tips that I also recommend. Dust's learning curve is pretty high compared to other games, but we'll help you through it.

Kush,
You'll find three camps of players:
Fittings win: these people invest in the best possible equipment for an advantage. Skills win: these people will invest in skills to benefit them all the time regardless of fittings. Gungame win: these people believe that HID skill trumps everything and that your aim is king.
The real key is not to follow one camp until you're sure they align with your preferences, here are some questions:
Do you save or spend all your ISK? Do you like a variety of suits or a single fitting? Do you have poor or good aim?
If you like to save ISK so you have a buffer, and you've got decent gun game: Try running a basic commando with cheap weapons. You'll save money and have lots of options if you spread your fittings around. Avoid skill weapons: sniper rifle/plasma cannon/nova knives.
If you like to spend lots of isk and don't have much gun game: Try running a minmatar scout with a mass driver, flaylock pistol and use expensive models. You'll have lots of mobility, only have to aim in general, can fit cloak and nanohive. Avoid direct engagements because of your low overall health.
If you like to try a lot of different things because you have a good grasp of FPS mechanics and would rather have the right tool for the job: run a variety of basic fits so that you can respond with tactical advantage rather than numbers. Only skill to 1 in suits and weapons until you're sure you want to progress. You'll eventually find things that you like and be able to build a light, a medium, and a heavy suit that all do good things in combat. You'll spend a lot of money on skillbooks, even though your suits are less expensive.
Hope this helps you get your head around some of the overarching strategies that will pay dividends.
