VR has never succeeded and I had this dream of a guy in a funny looking visor pretending to have fun he was like an actor or something..
I observed him and he looked very physically uncomfortable as well as not being able to quickly interact with those around him.
Then I remembered from when I was a little one that VR concepts suck because they are hard to set up and remove. Most casual gamers have real life stuff to do and they are the larger player base.
So why go down the road of VR and be the forefront? The push for VR fell because of the SNES.
People buy casual way more than The VR items.
So PC master race dwindles away to VR and eventually total lack of interest. But good luck trying CCP.

I will say that I was a true VR nay sayer for exactly the reasons you point to. I have come around to believe that the VR niche is going to be much larger than I first thought. While you can point to differences in technology or marketing or whatever it really comes down to adoption rates. The real turning point in my mind is the fact that any smartphone can quickly be turned into a VR headset making it something that anyone can test out for less than $50. Basically mobile VR is the gateway drug to full on headsets.
Merry Christmas.

As someone who has tried Oculus Rift and actually played EVE Valkyrie, I can assure you that it is both easy to set up and very fun. You do however look like a dork with the headset on lol.

I think Microsoft may be onto it the greatest with their hololens. It is less of a virtual reality and more of virtualizing reality.
If you have not checked it out you should google up "Hololens".
Merry Christmas.

Well considering I currently have a job where I build VR environments for clients outside of gaming applications, and that business has only been growing faster and faster, I'd say ccp are pretty smart to adopt the tech early.

This is understandable from a business/ military perspective. I'm still not a believer though in the VR gaming industry fully working I'll have to see it to believe it. I'm ok with being totally wrong because I normally am.
I just don't see it taking off.

I feel like it is going to go much farther outside of gaming.
Applications in medical, movies, live streaming events, and even adult movies are proving to be far more than a lot of us ever expected.
When it comes to gaming I think the average is very casual gamers that have been trained into multitasking. As a whole we are trained to game, text, check facebook, watch TV, and maybe even yell at the kids all at once making VR contrary to the environment that has been created over the past decade. This is the same argument that have stood by since all this VR stuff started popping up but I will admit that the VR niche in gaming is going to be much larger than I first thought.
Edit: apparently the word for adult movies is censored.
Merry Christmas.

However PSVR already has one hell of a lineup of VR games announced. If it is released at a reasonable price point I can imagine alot of people picking one up.

Reasonably priced, comfortable, and convenient wouldn't be so bad. I think something I really counted out is wireless tech. I keep thinking everything has a cord.

This one is difficult to say. On one hand I think that mobile VR will be the gateway drug that attracts people to things like Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift at any price point. On the other hand I think all it would take is more of the current reviews of headaches and nausea to keep people scared to gamble several hundred more dollars on VR.
Have you checked out the hololens at all? I feel like that is going to instantly surpass VR as we know it because the applications are much more far reaching.
Merry Christmas.

I'll check it out here in an hour or so. Work has ground to a halt at that point.

Absolutely incredible tech imo. It brings virtualization to the real world as oppose to cutting you off from the real world.

I totally agree with you deezy. It could replace every bit of tech we have in our homes at the moment. Cell phone, T.V, PC, and possibly more. News feeds and radio all live hell even hook up a camera to it and you have 24/7 live feed for your daily activities.
I think what really made it pop for me was the ability to still function around the house. I don't want all of my senses cut off and it doesn't interfere too much.
That really is the future.

Strangely enough my first vision with it was some student learning to drive in a big open parking lot with a series of real world environments being presented to them. Instantly going from navigating the bust streets of NYC to speeding down a turnpike and possibly even to navigating a 1 lane road back in the woods some where just gives endless possibilities all while getting the real feeling of handling the car without some expensive simulator.
We could sit here and write up 1000 pages of possibilities and still not be done.
My other favorite is instead of having grocery stores just have a big empty warehouse with a bunch of people walking up to digital shelves and hitting add to cart.
I could go on and on......
Merry Christmas.

Ikr! Take off the headset in one of these warehouses... You'll feel depressed :( visualize it. People reaching into nothingness, over and over and over.... It'll look like the world has gone mad :'(
