You're asking CCP to learn?
They had nearly 10 years to learn before they even launched Dust on how to communicate with a community, and look at Fanfest 2014.
This company is ADD, if ADD meant Association Down-syndrome Disorder. |

Yup. The complete failure comes down to "this should have been mentioned sooner", "Rouge should have known that the round table would not have been streamed" (this is why he walked off stage without even saying "oh, right; your SP and stuff will transfer."), and "tone deafness."
The CPM knew about Legion will in advance and I remember hearing Jenza say something like "This is cool but tell people sooner" and one of the CPM members basically was mortified after the event. One of the key bitter points for me was that I paid the stupid 20 dollars for an HD steam. The chat went absolutely wild with the news about Legion. It was mostly positive from the people that stated they played DUST. And then Rouge walked off the stage without answering the three big questions: "SP, character stats, and my stuff." After that, the tone went from "well, at least CCP can do what they want with DUST!" to "Did you just cancel the game and completely wipe out our purchases." By signature is a paraphrase of Boogie2988's character 'Francis': it is exactly how I felt after essentially being told "sorry dude; the princess is in another castle. Purchase your stuff again."
I think if they would have opened more carefully with "we cannot do what we want to do with DUST on the PS3 so we are moving the game to the PC" and state right out there in the open what is going to transfer, the outcry from the community would have been fairly small. But with how it played it, it seemed like CCP was getting the favor of their loyal players and actively taking a dump on the console game. Hell, even just "Project Legion IS DUST 514 on the PC; same game" would have stopped the fires because you had people wondering if everything was just getting sucked down the toilet.
It entirely comes down to how poorly the information was revealed rather than the quality of the information in my opinion. For a company that is literally known as Crowd Control Productions, their ability to control the crowd has been shockingly inept.

Exactly. The process at which information was divulged was lacking in respect for existing players and the process they had made through the years.
Players felt abandoned and their efforts laid to waste. I truely hope that with whatever is coming, CCP does not put the players through those emotions again.
I really do hope I'm wrong about players losing their progress and legacy with their characters.

Expect a SP and ISK wipe because the values will be drastically changed.
And then expect it to be connected to Gunwhatever and Valkyre, all tied to one account.
At best, you'll be given your entire history of AUR purchases returned to you - IF you're willing to biomass your toon on Dust, never to return.
This is how CCP has historically handled these things, don't expect much else.
Dust will eventually be thrown into it's own server, or likely just the PC side, and Legion and "Pub Dust" may be tied together, with Legion players able to pick many more game modes. |

I always thought the wipe is almost inevitable in case of a port/remake/whatever on any platform.
The original design has a good amount of flaws, maybe due to the fact that it was pretending to be too much like an MMORPG and not enough like an FPS. I'm pretty sure no FPS player likes to be instakilled by a proficiency 5 scrambler rifle 500 meters away, hence people won't simply care to invest much time in a game where they have to grind, not in order to be competitive, but in order to kill someone, sometime. Just naming one of the many core design flaws imo.
I also don't see any way CCP would "refund" aur purchases, because, and let's be honest with ourselves, the game has launched, it is not a beta, we used those aur to our advantage (those who did) for three years (and maybe even four considering the time it takes to develop a "new dust") and there's no reason for a rufund. I know people "invested" money looking at the future, but honestly, it would be pretty much like asking for a refund if you didn't like a DLC in other games. I honestly would love an aur refund, free money are free money, but I'm just trying to be realistic.
Same goes for SP and isk: a community full of people who made a charcater back in open beta, now can start with a couple of competitive end-game fits even if they never touched the game again for all these years. And would probably start in the new Dust with that huge amount of SP, leaving the poor guys who never made a character three-four years behind.
Isk is even worse.People like me made billions just waiting the clones auto-sell in the old Planetary Conquest, and I don't even want to think how many isk other corporations/players which lasted much longer in Planetary Conquest have.
The only "fair" deal I see is that we keep our BPOs (or some kind of "thing" that grants you the same advantage , considering that BPOs migh not exist in an hypothetical new Dust), skins and a couple of tribute cosmetic items.

Stop begging CCP.
Stop attempting to rationalize things for CCP.
All of you are acting like you have some screwed up form of Stockholm Syndrome. Abandon the game and send the real message to CCP that if they want to make a profit it is time they get with the program. The real lesson from Fanfest 14 was that CCP has no idea how to interact with players and they are simply going to do what ever they want.
Every single penny spent after that point was nothing more than complete and total support of the idea that taking player input for the grand scheme of things simply did not matter. So what if they allowed players to toy with numbers on what the next nerf/buff cycle was going to screw and so what if they added skins because for years players boasted that they would spend hundreds on purely cosmetic items. That is not taking input that is maximizing profits. Continuing to undermine the real solution to getting a port by pumping people up with total rhetoric about supporting the games future will only leave you stagnant on the PS3 until the day Sony shuts down PSN for it.
If you want a port then buy a new console and send Hilmar a vine of your PS3 going in the trash. Show them that the current path is going to leave them with zero paying customers at the end of the day. Only the bottom line makes decisions.

.
Nah, they will. CCP fears us as much as we fear them ******* up.
With merc packs, they got away with bullshit because they're not an american company, so they're not bound to our terminology. But selling AUR based on misleading information is something they don't want to mess with. That's an issue that'll tear your company to shreds. Because if ANYONE wins a case, then a domino effects occurs setting up a precedent for others to take CCP to court and get an almost immediate win.
And CCP's defense of, "But you bought it for a different game and got to enjoy it" doesn't work when you model your game with the idea of progression = everything and then promise a 10 year plan, and make it so new players have a terrible time at your game without the purchases. and then enable people to use real life purchases to increase that progression while adding nothing to your game experience itself.
Expect your AUR. |

Well, the article was more about what makes a good product and how a company should treat its players. Fanfest was just a good example of what NOT to do.

Yeah I don't know anyone from back then who didn't react with complete and utter disbelief at how that presentation played out. As both an almost ten year vet of eve and beta dust player I'd considered going to fanfest that year. I'd have been PISSED if I was in the audience during that. |

I really appreciate what everyone had to say on the podcast tonight regarding this. Part of the allure to this game is the skill tree earning what you worked for. That's CCPS mantra, I doubt seeing that replaced with a "perk deck" in another iteration. Our proliferation in skill, assets, and aur/sp/lp is very very high so a reduction in rate a "pension" of sorts like a enhanced skill boost we are used to seeing may be in order but I also think a sp payout would have to be met with at least a /10 effect for initial npe within the next gen (if that even happens) at this point, I could also see them say the whole... "You have these assets but if you want to try this game you'll have a headstart effect but, you gotta buy in first" Enter the transneural skill packets. Already met with disdain but its CCPS next cash grab and I just gotta ask... What if you were presented a headstart in EvE or Valkyrie for your time here... Would you take it or finally cash out?
