ive noticed some odd occurances while using flux nades/ a massdriver.
sometimes i'll splash ppl and clearly damge them but not at the full ammount of listed splash dmg.
fluxes are the most common example.
if i try to flux a cal assault and he is just on the outer edge of the blast radius, sometimes he will only take 1/3-1/2 shield dmg.
i thought all explosive did max dmg or no dmg.
am i wrong?

also is the massdriver broken now?
i stopped using it for a bit and now it seems every fifth shot is a dud and does no dmg.
anyone else notice this?
Hi, extensive Mass Driver experience here.
The blast radius for the mass driver (and I assume other explosives) is a lot smaller than people think. There is falloff damage, but it's a very very very small circle around the outside (possibly inside) of the max radius where the damage decreases dramatically all the way to 0. It's so small that a shot that does 100% damage could look very similar to a shot that does 0% damage.
For me, as long as it lands somewhere near their feet it has been relatively consistent. The only time it fires a "dud" is during lag spikes where the game fires a "pretend" round that comes out of the driver half a second after you push the button. It can sometimes also expend ammo in your magazine, but to everyone else that round you fired didn't exist.
The only time I consistently deal 0 damage to a target is when the round lands on an object that isn't considered "floor"...which really should be fixed cause omg it would be so much nicer to splash people by hitting the wall instead of trying to arc it perfectly between the gap to hit the floor.
Unfortunately, I haven't run into issues like this for flux grenades. It usually either wipes their shield or doesn't hit them at all for me. tbh I've probably fluxed myself more times than I've fluxed other people, so now I use AV grenades to combine with the mass driver's 100% efficacy against tanks

I tried to flux a heavy a few days ago, it failed even tho he was in radius. I shot gunned him but he mowed me
