I play Dust on my panasonic plasma TV and I would very much like to reduce the amount of burn-in I am suffering from. Currently I already have burned in health bars and other stuff from street fighter and most other games. It really is a pain having to spend 1 hour a day to remove it using the included burn in removal feature of the TV, which is just a scrolling white bar.
Dust is really not bad when considering burn-in since the screen image changes a lot and a consistent GUI across the selection screen, private quarters and so forth is non existing. But the fixed label on top of the screen present at all times, means it hurts the TV if you play for long periods. If removed I would feel more inclined to play more. |

I agree. We know are in a closed beta, also we are under NDA and so can't post picture/videos, that reminder is superfluous IMO.
P.S. Most likely you don't' have burn in but image retention. Burn-in is permanent and doesn't get better, image retention does get better...it only takes a lot to go away completely. |

I'm not trying to make light of your problem, but if you're a gamer, why did you buy a plasma to begin with? |

You are correct, it is image retention, still annoying though.

I bought plasma because the response time is so much better than LCD screens. If you are a gamer, I cannot see why you would not want a plasma, except for image retention/burn-in. |

Ah, silly me, an almost imperceptible refresh rate advantage in return for spending a few thousand to replace it once a year.
There's no way I can continue this conversation without having to point out things that are better left unsaid. |

Sounds nasty. Thats why i picked LCD, also modern tech (as opposed to when HDTVs were new) means response is usually very similar. IDK if CCP wants to remove that "work in progress" label yet though. BTW while we're on the subject of plasmas, does anybody know what the properties of the "plasma" in those things is? My scientist self wants to know.
EDIT : just checked the wiki. They're basically colored florescent lamps. Nothing too special |

I think I made this sound too bad. It's not like it's breaking the TV or anything. Simply a minor annoyance that can be removed on my end, though it takes a small amount of time. |

I believe the message is insurance. If someone does record video or take screen shots and publicly show them off, then others will know its beta and not live gameplay. This way at least for people who pay attention to that sort of thing dont believe that its the final product when they see gameplay on youtube or pictures online.
Without it then any recordings made now and then shown off after release could be easily mistaken as gold gameplay rather then beta gameplay, giving the game a bad impression.
Unfortunately I doubt they will remove that until the game goes live. |

This is undoubtedly why it is there, but changing the position on screen periodically would also be an option. |

Well back on topic....
I haven't had this issue, but now that you mention it, I can totally see why that would cause issues for people. Perhaps a scrolling Beta Testing message to avoid this problem for those who are having an issue. |

I had a similar problem some years ago, for very different reasons. I wrote this little "LCD Exerciser" as a result. The burn in were very severe, and it took the screen all night, but it recovered.
It is dizzying to look at, so please don't :P

the Jar file is executable, 1-4 changes colour patterns Arrow up/down changes the refresh speed. You'll want it to run as fast as you can, without seeing bands in the colour changes. Esc exits.
The idea I use is shifting solid colours that causes the sub pixels to shift a lot.
Obviously you'll need to hook up your TV to your computer or laptop. |

Only the very early plasma screens have this problem. If it has modern connectors like HDMI, you're safe. |

Is it an SD tv? Because support for SD tv's hasn't been enabled yet. |
