'Gimme Gimme Never Gets'
Everyone is talking about dust ports and a new game and stuff but as the old saying goes, well you can put the rest together.
The way i see it they have dust 514 making money doing well, the only reason for them to make a new 2.0 is of course if they game died off and no longer became profitable.
Now that's where Gimme Gimme Never Gets comes into play.
Since we still are actively playing dust, which we are otherwise it would become un profitable and die off, i dont think ccp would pay money to keep the game running, there in the business of making money.
When people say give us a dust port or a 2.0 that basically says you love playing dust enough to want a new game.
In this case i would say the closest you would see a dust 2.0 would be right around that time you can no longer find any battles on dust 514.
There really is only 1 way for a new version and thats sadly to stop playing.
Dont hate me for saying this its just my opinion. Feel free to share your thoughts. I wont argue like the rest.
If everyone goes quiet and cold well then they have no other choice but a 2.0 or shut down forever.

The logic that CCP will leave Dust 514 on PS3 because it is profitable is flawed.
Let's start with what we don't know: how profitable is Dust 514 exactly. Technically if Dust is bringing in $1,000/month and only costs $999/month it is making a $1/month profit, right? Well that isn't anything to write home about is it?
I think you see where I am going with this.
Sure, Dust is profitable on the PS3, but the PS3 is a console in it's final months of life. If CCP wants Dust to make more money, that is, if CCP wants Dust to not just be profitable but very profitable, they will migrate it to a platform that isn't dying.

I am glad someone else gets it.
We are not talking about simply updating the game, we are talking about leaving behind the current players and hoping they follow to a new console. That in itself is a MASSIVE gamble. Gambling millions of advertising dollars on being able to keep pace with a steady flow of triple A titles dividing players attention would be just plain dumb when they are sitting here milking away at the current PS3 players.
Seriously people STOP with saying the PS3 is in its final months. Sony has made it very clear that they will be keeping the PS3 network alive and well as long as it stays out of the red. Minimal updates and a constant flow of sales from the 10s of millions PS3s still floating around mean that going red is no where in the near future. I am only guessing but I would say that the soonest time the PS3 network will be shut down is early 2018.

This doesn't make sense. Well, I guess if there's only one metric to profit, and even then only as you describe it, then it makes sense. No company ever expands on a 1.0 level product to produce something better? 2016 model vehicles are designed, produced, and released only after 2015s are no longer profitable? How many Gibson SGs have been produced? Peanut M&Ms exist because of the commercial failure of the original M&Ms. Cherry, Diet, New, and Classic Coke were designed to pull the slack that Coca Cola dropped?
Sometimes you want to expand your market. Sometimes you want to modify or build upon the good ideas of an earlier version, hopefully making things more efficient and correcting the flaws inherent to the first draft and/or the technological weaknesses of the time. In the case of DUST 2.0, I imagine it would be for all of the above. Even if DUST on PS3 is still profitable. But then again, we have 0 (zero) context as to what defines profit in this case. Too, by waiting until this version all but dies before releasing a rebuild, port, whatever, then the risk of losing audience interest, momentum, and funding due to these loses become very real.
I guess I'm just missing something obvious here.

But the PS3 is dead. Your point is misleading in the fact that the PS2 pumped out games also after it was dead. 4 maddens in a row was the same game. PS3 community is dwindling and not growing. With Xmas round the corner there's going to be even more PS4 players not playing PS3 much anymore. As for the gamble, PS4 players post all the time on twitter and facebook saying they will play it if moved to PS4. All of my old Corp mates that are on PS4 say they'll play if moved. Tbh I believe ccp wants this game dead. They failed to deliver a shooter game and now want this game forgotten. It's painfully obvious they don't know or care about shooter games when the weapon specs are just plain out stupid. Assault rails are better at range than the scoped ones. Assault hmgs are OK but the hmg is close to useless on most maps. Come on, a little scout can punch a sentinel. A sentinel is slow and has to be up close to be effective but got nerfed anyways. The constant nerf/buff that drives players away. Hey spend your money on boosters and time to spec into things that will get nerfed just when you figure out how to run what you worked for. That's actually a common complaint among ex players. I learned long ago to be proto in all weapons because Rat will nerf to please the whiners. It's just sad because there is promise in a next gen sequel but I believe there's no interest from ccp. If there was they would of added maps, stop doing the stupid things that are driving players away. And who gives breach ars crazy distance with accuracy anyways. It's like none of them know weaponry at all.
End of rant.

No, that's the fastest way to prove to a marketing department that there's no future for the game on any platform. As long as people keep playing the game and showing they're going to support it, there's room for moving forward. There's proof that there is a demand for the continuing of the franchise.
But if the game is dead... there's no reason to resurrect it.

I understand your point and agree with it. The thing is we have kept playing it long after we have been begging for a 2.0 and what happened? NOTHING.
I am not talking about a resurrection really more so of a 2.0. you see an old ps3 game might die off yes, but a brand new ps4 game i dont think would ever die off for years to come just the same way dust 1.0 did on the ps3. So if the ps3 dies with dust 514 then a 2.0 on the ps4 would also be profitable for ccp for many many years.
As said above i dont see dust ever dying and that scares me for shear lack of time if we will ever see a 2.0

"Hey, welcome to the DUST ke-HAHAHA. Sorry, couldn't keep a straight face. Here is all this cool stuff in a game called Legion. See you at the Roundtable which I am sure everyone will be able to see." *and the fires could seen from Jita* "Well, that went poorly. I guess they don't want a port after all!"
"Don't worry guys; DUST is making money!" Hey, that's good. Maybe they will put that money into DUST as a further investment? Or just take it for what it is and don't advance the game (I am not saying it is an easy decision to port/remake a game that had a low playerbase and 'mixed' reviews)
There are too many ways to interpret what is going on. Don't spend money of Aurum so they know that we won't be suckered into paying for a 'dead' product! "I guess interest in DUST as an IP is gone; no point in moving forward." Okay! Spend on Aurum, play the game! "Why would we port when we are doing so well here?"
CCP and the player base are in a lose-lose situation. Whatever they do "will be as a result of the fault of the players" and however the players react "is a result of CCP's failures."

It is actually interesting to look at the situation evolve slowly providing you are not fully invested in it. I am hopeful for information but I am not drooling over my keyboard like I was a year ago. Equally hopeful and annoyed but not burning excess energy on being perpetually hopeful that Rouge lets out a wet fart at an inopportune time. Still bitter but not actively stoking the fire.
Whether or not it means anything, I think the best clue we have is Aeon's Rectal Temperature for something in the works. Because that is a work of ART.

No it does not but keeping the game running must mean they are doing well.
Otherwise there is no point. its pretty obvious they are making money maybe not much but enough for them to keep this game going.
I mean you dont pay a power bill if your house has no power correct? Its still alive and that shows they are still doing very well i remember a ccp post a while back saying dust 514 has become very profitable for them. Maybe not exact quotes but they did say something very similar not to long ago.

Why market a game if there is no reason? They are still marketing meaning they still have hope in dust 514.
Now when you stop seeing those dust 514 ads around the net then you know something has changed and possibly coming soon.
