Most people are saying we are still about a year away from having a fully functional emulator.
Emulators will do 1 of 2 things:
Run the PS3 PS network into the ground thanks to skyrocketing use and no money going in.
Make the PS3 PS network stay around for a very long time to come thanks to PS Plus subscribers constantly allowing their sub to renew thus making Sony want to keep the money rolling in for it.
What will be really interesting to see is if Sony adds any type of security to prevent those systems from connecting.

Yea those are all games that have been very heavily modded going all the way back to the first day the PS3 was cracked.
Basically those are not emulators they are just heavily hacked copies of the games running in a basic exe. I do think we are only 1 - 2 years away from a FULL emulator. It is really hard to say considering the complexities of cell processing and the games being built to run within that environment.

Later they release an update that said "any modifications to the OS aren't allowed".
Then followed one that said "only the sony provided OS may legally play online and access the PSN store". (we'll sue you)
All so they can spy on and censor players.
So yes,i have no doubt it's coming.

On the first gens you could even install Windows. The "Install Other OS" option gave essentially unrestricted access to the system to run absolutely anything that could boot a computer.
I had a lot of fun running several different versions of linux and a few different cracked windows copies on my first gen. Some stuff just ran so much better on the ps3 than on a standard computer it was not even funny.

Afaik, it's not all about the PS Network, but emulating the "strange" architecture of a ps3 on a Intel/AMD PC is pretty a hard work, not worth any time, after all.

It was removed sadly because hackers used the 'install other os' option to hack the network and download all the games. I miss my linux ps3...
