To those that rocked it like I did at the time, what are your 2 favorite games? Mine have to be Metroid and River City Randsom. Both games I spent endless hours on as a kid! But rcr is the first game I ever played that you could level up on diff skills from kicking, punching, stamina and such. Such a long stride from where we have come from the past. Would like to hear what some of you older players come up with!

I had a great game called Bad News Baseball which I really liked, and of course Super Mario 3.

Got really hooked on Trog when i was younger but like anyone my age i was completely hyped for SMB3. After watching a 2hr advert for it (The Wizard) and all the adverts for it (population of earth coming together to form a pic of mario) i played the hell out of it when it finally arrived from 'santa'
the first game i truly got hooked on though was Legend of Zelda. was the first game i stayed up all night to complete (i was 9) i still have all my old Nintendo consoles and i even have the super gameboy adaptor and action replay for my SNES

What do you mean by "at the time"? Mine is still working and in use.
Only 2?
Zelda & probably SMB3... but Gunsmoke, Life Force: Salamander and any Mega Man are right up there.

I had the Sega Master System. But my step bro had the NES at my dad's. We rented metroid and zelda for days at a time reading electronic gaming monthly or whatever other subs i had for hidden stuff.
Super mario, tyson's punchout, and some wrestling game with the generic starman guy were good memories too.

The teenage mutant ninja turtles game still pisses me off when I think about it, but I was so in to ninja turtles that it was one of my favorites. And there was A Boy and his Blob, a game where you feed your blob companion various jelly beans that would mutate it into objects (ladders, umbrellas, etc.) that you would use to navigate the levels. My grandma got it for me and I was like "wtf, this ain't contra!", but the game really grew on me.
If I stopped using explosives, my kdr would be doubled.

As a kid i played SMB3 and Punch Out at my cousins house and loved those games.
When I was about 8 or 9 my brother introduced me to another completely legal way to play videogames. This was when I played and beat Megaman 2 & 3 without cheating. Straight platforming skills on a keyboard.
Damn kids these with their saves and participation achievements. Back in my day if you touched the fire you died. If you touched the spikes you died. If you ran into the badguy from behind you died. Jump in that hole if you want because maybe a secret thing was hidden there. Probably just gonna die tho.
My answer to the thread would be Super Mario Bros 3 and one of the Megaman games.
Im 25 btw

Yea that's what I'm talking about! Forgot about all those games mentioned, master blaster was hard as hell. But honestly I forgot about kid Icarus! Very tough, I once left my game on for days at a time not to start over. How could I forget about Zelda! Loved it as well.

I swear Rush N Attack was the first Minja.
Watch a little of this SPEED RUN and note the following:
-Drops in from the sky like there's an MCC.
-Is wearing blue scout mk.0.
-OHK Nova Knives
-Encounters jumping mass driver enemies
-Can leap over people with Myos

ha, I forgot about Excite Bike and Contra (wtf, how could I have forgotten Contra?!) Honestly, there were more great games that I've just forgotten about, unfortunately.
Re: the comment earlier about jumping in a hole cuz, well, maybe there's something hidden there. Yeah, I love that. That was me on the Revenge of Shinobi, Sega Genesis. Doing the secret +1 over and over just to be able to suicide into every hole I could find, slicing all the way down... cuz.... just in case. I'd be the cool kid the next day in school being the first to find whatever MIGHT exist. or not. sigh.

Wow look how long it took this thread to get thrown into the locker room! Seems like general to me. I guess next time I will make a CCP post or cry about something! Just trying to make conversation and it gets axed to the basement. Thanks to all that chimed in, it was great to remember the old games, and we didn't think the forums were watched that close. Hmmmm
