https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=143747#post143747i have alot of issues with tanks atm. but first let me just say that I am avid tank driver and love to use them, i have extensively used the gunnlogi and now I use the sargius alot.
I am going to refer to marauders as t2 HAV's and regular versions as t1 Hav's.
first off when fighting infantry and anti tank teams even in my gunn logi i never really had a issue with them, they rarely killed me I think it is good there. with the right fit and good driving skills infantry are never a issue. once teamwork comes into play tho, tanks will die very fast....
But when taking on other tanks I have some serious issues. as it is right now in dust 514 if there are two tanks that are the same level aka t1 vs t1 or t2 vs t2, what determines the tank battle is who ever sees who first. now this plays more in with the t2 HAV's then the t1 but it really does come down to who sees who first.
I spent about 7m sp in tanks, getting what I thought was the best tank out there, but even with a huge buffer tank or a booster tank with some buffer, against other tanks I melt and others melt. If i see them first I win if they see me first they win. As it stands "tanking" as it were is just not possible. the days of moving in and relying on skills(in game skills not rl skills haha) to out match your opponent that is in the same ship and just barley getting away in hull is just not possible in these cases. The dps on the t2 tanks is just ridiculously high, I can kill installations in 2 shots with a railgun and in about 3 seconds of firing with my blaster. and another tank only takes about 5 seconds or 3 shots with a railgun.
Now once team work comes into play I can see the infantry aspect changing alot, being able to take down a tank fairly easily. So I would suggest a health buff to tanks and maybe even a damage reduction to the t2 tanks, 1.5 damage off the bat is huge.
I also think there needs to be some increase in cpu on the t2 tanks, maybe even the t1. as it stands now you can barely fit meta 2 or 3 gear and you are over on cpu, there is absolutely zero chance of fitting all prototype gear on a tank. I have the only two skills that give cpu bonus's to tanks maxed atm and I still have a hard time fitting everything I want. at the very least they should add powergind and cpu skills for tanks.
it would also seem that the railguns when fighting tanks is the best weapon by far. so if you are fighting infantry, blaster with shield booster, if fighting tanks railgun with buffer.
any thoughts?
p.s I only speak for the shield versions of the tanks, but I have had many battles with armor version and it still stands who ever sees who first wins.
also as an update to this post I can now kill any tank with my railgun in two shots and one shot with any t1 tank. when it comes to anti tank and rail guns the system really seems broken atm. tanking any other tank at this point is never going to happen. I speak mainly for t2 tanks atm.
