It may sound petty but that "press start" at the beginning is a little annoying, can we just not have it? the character selection screen is logical and required but "press start" this isn't the days of super nintendo and I don't understand why games companies still think this is a logical step? You don't do it on pc, why do it here. |

I think "press any button" is acceptable here. |

I agree.. It reminds me of a lot of the new games, where you double click the icon to launch it, then you get a launcher that asks you if you want to play the game.. like DOH.. why on F earth did you think I clicked the icon to begin with.
Same thing here, if we could streamline some of the stuff, maybe take out that X to connect to DUST server and keep the start, or eliminate the start and keep the X. Anything that would reduce the amount of time you're clicking before you're playing is a good thing. |

ya. just makes me wonder "why am I pressing this button". It just seems like buttons there for the sake of having an extra button to press. |

I think it should do away with requiring inputs to either of those. It could pop up a message saying that it's connecting, but we shouldn't have to acknowledge it. I noticed that during server wonkiness that that message served a purpose to trigger a reconnect attempt when it failed, but there's no reason they can't have it auto attempt after the failed message (that one's fine to acknowledge, since it's unexpected behavior).
We shouldn't have to hit any buttons til the character select screen in my opinion (unless they really want us to see all the fancy backgrounds). We launched the game; if it was on accident, we'd have quit via the PS button well before the "press start" screen showed up.
My friends and I always wait til after acknowledging the connecting to Dust servers message if we have to step out of the room, because it's annoying to leave to go grab a drink and come back to have to hammer through several unnecessary stop points. |

the reason you have to push start in pretty much every console game including this one, is so the game knows which controller is the primary for the use in menus and such other wise the game has no clue (defiantly with wireless controllers) which controller is player one.
I learned this when i was making games from the XnA kit and needed a way to stop all the controllers being picked up and messing up my menu navigation
splash screens can also have a lot of other uses such loading stuff up in the background, do version checking etc so the push start is just a natural pause for the version checking.
im sure a dev can give a more technical reason the above is just what i learned from my degree

Could something like that be determined at the character select prompt? If it needs to be its own "press start" kind of thing, it'd be nice if it were at the end of loading and connecting to servers, so you don't have this prompt holding back additional loading.
Besides, someone else messing with my playing by using another controller would be within punching distance to stop them from doing so. |
