As it is now, our mercs have roughly 45 degrees of vision to each side.
A regular human is able to have 60 degrees to the side, 50 to the top, and 70 towards the bottom.
With our current helmets, that field of view may be either A) Enhanced (the Gallente Scout has or had a description stating it enhanced it), or B) Hindered.
So, my question is: is it possible to get those degrees into the game via a patch? It pains me when I'm trying to knife someone and they move 46 degrees to my left, and become completely invisible to me (besides my HUD, but who uses that in >5m CQC?).
Another bonus question: is it possible to give different suits (individually) and/or roles (as a group) different fields of view? As in, logistics can keep their enhanced passive radar, but the Scouts get more field of view, etc?
Am I asking for too much out of a game on life-support, that's on a lesser console?

I don't think it can be done through a patch.
Port it now !

I made a thread saying that the field of view should be wider some time ago...
They rejected it, saying it would lower the "already low" framerate.
I MAXED OUT MY FIELD OF VIEW IN WORLD OF TANKS ON MY CRAPPY LAPTOP WITH THE LOWEST SETTINGS ON IT AND IT DIDN'T DROP A SINGLE FRAME, WHAT ARE YOU FOOLS ON ABOUT?!?!?

Am I asking for too much out of a game on life-support, that's on a lesser console? Peripheral vision allows more than 180 degrees right to left something like 80 degrees down and about 40 degrees up. There is no reason I can see why CCP couldn't at least include this as somewhat blurred detail on the edges of the screen, with a good solid focussed circular area in the centre of the screen. Frankly I don't understand why they haven't done this before, other than perhaps because it somewhat circumvents the limitations of the minimap on the HUD. |

It's just a change to the player camera, honestly. That's basic stuff for any engine. Technically the only thing you need to do is just change the DefaultFOV value but that comes with a whole host of other issues.
Primarily framerate, as the client would have to render more things with 90-110 degrees FoV versus 45. Which, PC gamers will often tell you that this changes the way your gun/arms look.
Then there's the aspect of Pincushion Distortion which is a problem in many games. The higher the FoV the more likely you'll see this. This is when things on the outer edges of the screen become stretched or distorted compared to the center of focus. In the short term it looks kinda funky but in the long term it can disrupt the player's sense of depth, induce nausea/motion sickness, and display unnatural movements.
There is an effort to counter this with a bit of programming wizardy though. It is something I've brought up with CCP previously. You can read more about that here: http://www.decarpentier.nl/lens-distortion

Have always wanted a wider Field of Vision.
FoV is adjustable in almost all PC shooter games. I tend to have it set at about 90-100 degrees as that feels about right (although it is every so slightly like a fishbowl when you first get used to it)
The problem with smaller FoV`s is that in close quarters it is totally unnatural and you end up easily losing track of your target as there is no peripheral vision. (Anyone who has played Dust for more than 1 hour can tell you the frustrations of this) |

The way i would have built a future tech dropsuit HUD is with an expanded FOV displayed in-suit with compression at the edges. The compression would have to be non-linear, i'd use logarithmic because it's easier to gauge velocities of objects coming into your FOV, but other non-linear mapping might work as well.
Example
An approach like this would be a lesser burden on the resources of the client/PS3 than a straight up FOV increase.

Uncharted 3, voted best graphics in-game of 20something year (and it really looks amazing) runs at what looks like 60fps.
Just sayin', the only problem with Dust is that it's graphics are not optimized to run on the PS3.

you could open ark on ps4..sure..but right now itll run like complete garbage because it has to be optimized
my old roommate is a game developer and he swore optimization is the most time consuming thing ......and is normally at the end of development ...developing dust on ps3 was a terrible idea
