Seriously now, if it moves to a better platform PC or ps4 ( I have bolth but prefer ps4 ) what's the big deal?
Better hardware and software. We have a tiny playerbase so a better platform would most likely increase player numbers.

People were [mostly] not upset with Legion in and of itself.
They were upset by the manner by which it was announced, the circumstances around the announcement, the severe lack of information about what was going on with DUST, the general lack of communication and the fact that Legion wasn't even greenlit yet.
If CCP had bothered to properly announce Legion and what it entails, lay out clear and consise plans about DUST -> Legion transition, as well as a tentative roadmap (all things that, you know, a competent developer would have done), most people would have been quite happy.
But no. CCP screwed things up badly, and most people reacted badly to it. Understandable in the context of the times...

Yup, all about how it was delivered.
28 minute 'DUST keynote' that started out as "yes, DUST is finally moving forward; that is great even if it means a new system!" to "wait, is this an entirely new game?" The fear became entirely about whether any of our stuff transfer. There is also the fact that the CPM was telling CCP to not deliver this at FanFest. It started to look like "lawl, those silly DUST players" while being in a very friendly environment (PC owners that are uber EVE/CCP fans and had not been burned by DUST).
The analogy I used at the time was "Imagine trying to conceive a child for months and years. One day, your wife's doctor wakes you up in the middle of the night by smearing sewage on the bed, urinating on your face, and shouting 'your gonna be a daddy!'." The information is pleasant. The delivery method, less so.
"This is B.S! This is B.S! I paid money! Cash money, dollars money, cash money!"

Don't worry folks whatever it is they can't/won't/shouldn't talk about is under control.

Other things added fuel to the fire. For example, when Legion was demoed we could see that it was the same buggily-modified engine all over again. The new & old devs were up there on stage crowing about better graphics and trees and did not address the core problems that their implementation of UR3 is riddled with.
What Rouge demoed was very likely infected with the same failings Dust has today, the same failings that earned CCP a crappy metascore for Dust and most certainly would again for the Legion product demoed at FF2014.
I'd say it was the customer-relations cluelessness shown by CCP, coupled with their failure to acknowledge their failings with Dust, coupled with the attitude of many of the devs on the forums coupled with years of beta tester feedback ignored.....
There's more, but it's all spilt milk and bad blood now. The only thing that can redeem that history is if CCP learned their lesson and are willing and capable of delivering a quality product in the future. A product that honors the principles of core FPS mechanics, deep brutal NewEdenesque gameplay, complete in-game systems to support all that, quality player experience(lookin' at you, hand-crafted NPE) and meaningful connections to EVE at all levels of gameplay.
My fear is that we're going to get some cheezily-marketed piece of RMT bullshit - warbarge, daily missions, multiple currencies, yada yada yada....CCP's behind closed doors development approach is going to come back to bite them in the ass.

With project Legion never actually being green lit its pointless arguing over too much. Point is Legion was cancled and CCP pulled more devs from Dust to go work on 1 of their new 30 million dollar projects. Dust will not be ported and CCP can keep ignoring good ideas from Dust Mercs by claiming were "ungrateful", this scenario should only be believed if you are dumb otherwise CCP is using it as an excuse to keep milking their time. My perception of the events.
CCP before FF14: We are laser focused on the PS3.
Behind closed doors: Lets move most of our resources AWAY from Dust, and start a new PC game that replaces it. And lets not decide to determine what gets moved over yet. And shhh, don't tell anyone.
CCP and CSM just prior to FF14: Can't wait to show you guys all we have ready for Dust at FF. You are going to love it.
FF 14 schedule: Several Dust panels. Awesome! Lets watch it stream online.
FF Dust events: So this is what Legion is going to be like...
FF Dust attendee: WTF is Legion. The schedule said this was a Dust event.
FF Dust Presenter: Yeah. Legion is like Dust. Except its on PC, and not even close to Alpha yet. And we don't know if it will even get released.
FF Dust Attendees: ... So what happened to laser focused? You just told us that not too long ago. And what happens to Dust? What happens to all our progress?
FF 14 CCP: Yeah, we were actually working on this game... We don't know what will happen to Dust. And we haven't even decided if Legion will even see the light of day, so we haven't even considered what SP/Isk will/won't be ported.
Collective Dust Bunnies: F*ck you...

What's the dam problem?
Where do people come up with these ideas of Sony shutting down the PS3 servers.
They have said time and time again that they will support it as long as it is profitable.
I also very highly doubt that AAA developers would be spending millions releasing new games on both the PS3 and PS4 if the server was getting shut down any time soon.
Oh well. I am NC on the Palos server and thats where I will be 99% of my gaming time for the next 6 months unless Dust made some miracle leap.

trolls is the best answer. They stated after fanfest that everything applicable would transfer. From what i understand it was because they were talking about removing adv gear & remoddeling our skill progression to be simular to eve, so no sp. certain people tried to twist that into we are losing everything & lots of tinfoil. I believe they will tell us their port plans as soon as they have the things people are bitching about, absolute clarity & facts on what will & won't transfer, roadmap, ect. They won't let us die on ps3

That should have been in the opening announcement. They should have clarified that Dust would still be supported, at least until Legion release, and that as much player assets as possible would be transferred.
They said none of it in the announcement, and what was said was too little too late.
I had never in all my life seen as large and as united a rage as after FF14, so to call all those players, who could never agree on anything trolls for being in agreement demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the situation.

Not just legion. They got slapped in the face by EVE players pretty much the exact same way as a result over the "walking in stations" fiasco with incarna and the leaking of a marketing newsletter detailing sh*t EVE players at large specifically do not want.
There have been more than one PR disaster that CCP has had to learn some hard lessons from.
To say that Legion was a singular event for them is not on the money. It was the straw that broke the camel's back, really. To date CCP hasn't figured out where the happy medium between sharing and over-promising is as a whole so they err on the side of caution from what we all see.
Now in my opinion as a player, I feel too cautious. I understand WHY as a CPM they are so cautious.
As both a player and a CPM I feel there is a better level of communication that can be had. We'll see what comes though. I'm hopeful that some things can be talked about more in the future.

More specifically the round table happened but no one made provisions to livestream it to the rest of us. So we all saw "welcome to the DUST keynote. We are doing legion now." *mic drop*
Now I'm obviously over-simplifying of course. But to the DUST players watching the feed, because no round table live feed?
All we saw was a mic drop.
I started laughing pretty much the instant i saw what was happening because i wasn't aware of a round table either.

Let's also not forget they confirmed it would still use Unreal Engine 3 with all their extra code stacked on it, because "it has all the features of Unreal 4 so there's no point in upgrading".
