First and foremost, let me state that I completely understand why people want to 'do something' given the complete lack of information we have in regards to what is undoubtedly the most important thing in DUST's future: a confirmation that the will have a future. I still have a most massive chip on my shoulder about how this game has been handled and believe that it is unethical as hell to have said "everything applicable is going to transfer", continue to sell a whole bunch of crap, but then make no additional statement about a transfer. It seems to be shifty.
Please understand that my disagreement with the 'boycott' is in no way related to:
1. Disagreeing with a port or where that port should be. 2. Nihilism. 3. A general disdain of the game.
I understand the need/desire to do something but the November 14th thing is very nearly pointless. What are the different things that I have read that this one day boycott are hoping to accomplish?
"Let CCP know that we want a port!" This is like telling a romantic partner "just so you know, I would like to sleep with you!"; it is information that is already inherently obvious. Even if it weren't obvious that we want the game that we are invested in (emotionally/timewise/financially) to continue, CCP is entirely aware. We have sent tickets, e-mails, harassed them in person, hashtags, and various tweets of "where be the port?!" Not playing for a day, especially if it is a piece of entertainment that you actually get enjoyment from, to tell the developers something they are already fully aware of is futile.
"Show unity in our desire!" Aside from this being exactly the same as "we want a port!", people cannot even decide what they are actually 'protesting' for. PS4? PC? "Port" means so many different things to different people that the single word pushing a movement is bound to be confusing. Would be like trying to get a boycott together for "FREEDOM!" while you have the NRA, Planned Parenthood, NAMBLA, and drug legalization advocates in the same crowd.
Put pressure on CCP! How, exactly, does this pressure CCP? I mean this in all sincerity; how does 'every one of us ~2,300 accounts logged on daily' not logging in a single day do anything to help push CCP into either going for a port or announcing their intentions (either of which we would all consider a win). We have a timescale problem, a numbers problem, and a lack of leverage problem. Let's start in order.
Timescale: One day for anything is practically meaningless. "So no one logged into DUST three days ago. The numbers went back up to their expected amounts over these last three days though." Business as usual. The 'boycott' would need to be longer to get a noticeable impact.
Numbers: 2,400 accounts, maybe 2,000 people, not playing a game for a day means a lot less than than it happening in EVE. Even if you can get 90% of the people to go along with it, you are still only talking about 1,800 people.
Leverage: Not playing the game does nothing to change whether or not you supported CCP. The game is F2P microtransaction based. Threatening to not play is not nearly as damaging when it comes to DUST as EVE given the different monetization models. Yes, 'not playing' means that the community gets smaller and becomes harder to get a map but how many people are "not playing" right now? That didn't force their hand, I don't think an extra 2,000 less will do it.
When you put all of these together, you see the whole picture: "for one day, 2000 people (if EVERYONE goes along) are not going to play a game that is F2P. They have either already monetized the game or they have not. Either way, there are too few people to actually be concerned and the time scale makes it even less concerning."
Again, I understand the desire to do something but not playing for a single day is nearly slacktivism; it does slightly more than just like a YouTube video to 'raise awareness about this criminal in Africa.'
Something that has slightly more potential is simply this:
"Hello CCP. Since FanFest 2014, I have had nearly no interest in the present of the game and have only been interested in where the game will go. I have monetized the game quite heavily. If I had to pick a number, I would say I have spent $500 dollars on microtransactions in the game or more since I first started. However, I no longer have any intention to spend anything on the game and have not for well over a year. Before, I spent about 15-20 dollars a month. Now, nothing. This is not because I do not like DUST 514 but rather because I do not wish to support a game that has no future.
As it stands, the PS3 is an old dying platform that cannot support the game. Whether it is just the game not being able to advance given the old hardware, Sony no longer supporting the system, PS3's no longer being purchasable, or even CCP's intention to no longer keep the game running. It is a fact that the game cannot survive on this current system: whether it dies suddenly or slowly, the result is the same. As much of a spender I am in regards to entertainment, that seems too risky even to me.
I will continue to monetize your game given these conditions: 1. A concrete plan for transition that is clear on how items will move over. IE, I will feel less issue purchasing SKINs or Boosters if those things would transfer. 2. A completely new game without transition. This has potential for me to never play the game given how badly I was burned. 3. A direct port with transition. Again, I have no problem spending on money on things I enjoy.
Until that moment, I cannot in good faith purchase anything for the game.
-Joseph Ridgeson."
tl;dr one day boycott of a game has little effect, make your boycott known, and vote with your wallet. I hope that the boycott actually works, even if I am doubtful.

I honestly don't know why , but sometimes not playing sounds a lot more fun than playing. Maybe because it's the state of this game at the moment. 90% of matches are BS. Lag , skill disparity , hit detection. There are some mercs that would rather have dust die quicker and at least know where it's going. I am one of them.

Allow me to ask you this...If you continue to watch a Television Series and you are very much a fan of this show, You (as a consumer) want to be entertained (Mentally, Emotionally or even Spiritually) every time you watch it. Enticement and anticipation grows the more engrossed you become with it because you are enjoying your time. All is well....but then it happens....they mysteriously kill someone in the show (kicked the Actor out because they were not fit for the role, work or time constraints, etc...) This baffles you; yet you keep playing over and over and over again in your head WHY?!
Why the decision to do this? No one honestly knows but the Producers/ Owners of the Show/Network which leads into leaks, speculations, rumors, so on and so forth but this down spiral persists....the original writers are gone, CGI has been dumbed down to be more accustom to the new payroll/ time-slot. But suffice it all you continue as a loyal patron buying and purchasing anything in relation to this entity. Now things start getting a little worse....Key actors are cut, the story is inconsistent, the shows vision is diminishing with each passing season and all you can still think about is....WHY?!
And here is the answer I will give you.....If YOU are not satisfied with THIS PRODUCT, you have the right as an individual to continue in supporting them. You and YOU alone have the power to switch off your T.V. or change the channel. If you continue to watch it, just to watch it...You are only dissatisfying yourself even more so, but if you stand your ground and fight to make a difference giving the Developers more constructive feedback and saying NO, when they have wronged you as a customer only then will you find freedom in your Respite.
All I'm offering you is the truth, nothing more.

And, to you Lightning, I have a question:
"Does my idea of a boycott carry more weight than a hashtag or a one day of not playing the game?"
I understand why people want the 14th boycott and spam the forums with "port DUST" but if the idea is to inform the developers, they already know. If the idea is to push the developers into being more open, not playing the game with an inherent timeframe as to when you are going to start playing does nothing.

You're absolutely right about 1 day being meaningless, but you aren't thinking fully about what that one day has done to MANY. If there are "in total" 3,000 players (as of now) and you influenced 1 out of 10 of them, cycles continue. Especially when there is weight to it, one person may have been swayed by anothers actions or words or perhaps those words continue to dwell in that individual's mindset, for perhaps days, weeks or months until they have finally declared enough, is enough.
Again, I will reiterate words are meaningless, without weight. Or should I say, without influence.

I would note that it is not actually ~2,300 players logging on daily. That is ~2,300 players logged on at once. These are significantly different.
I would expect the actual number of individual players playing DUST on any given day to be orders of magnitude higher, and the actual active playerbase greater still (not everyone logs in every day).
A handful of forumites declaring a strike boycott is not going to make anything like a noticeable dent in these numbers.

True, but again without influence none of this will matter. Take for example the day CCP announced at Fanfest 2014 the future of DUST 514 into Project:Legion. That decision alone was only comparable to a Seismic Wave (Surface Wave) that shook throughout all of New Eden into Social Media. When key individuals left this game as well, it only seared more into their decision that you CANNOT expect a community to blindly follow you without Just. That is influence, at it's finest.

How, exactly, do you think this 'boycott' will help in any way, shape, or form? It's hardly going to be influential except to discourage devs even further from interacting with people.

I honestly have no idea what this ranting about 'Just' is? Could you clarify? Your post is somewhat incomprehensible.

I have done all that I needed to do, my words are meaningless at this point in time, I will not argue with your or try to sway your decision in anyway. But I will say one thing, do not be fooled by those who deem themselves as your Saviors, open your eyes and really look, I mean really look. Look passed the ISK you have accumulated, your Valor/Spoils you have earned and look at this as a Customer, nay a Gamer. Do you believe it is fair how they have treated not only this community but you as a customer throughout the lifespan of this game? If favorable, then again I will not bother nor pester you with counter arguments, but if you were in fact disappointed only look at yourself and ask why am I still here? Unless I myself contribute in any way shape or form.
Oh and one more thing.... Just: "based on or behaving according to what is morally right and fair."
