I think the number of battles played a merc has participated in should be added to lifetime stats. The way this will work is that a match automatically gets added to the "Battles Played" stat if you've spawned into it at least once. That way the battle won't be added if you happen to deploy into a defeat screen, or if you deploy into a game already 80% done, and just leave. This will serve a few different purposes.
1) It will allow people to calculate a player's average impact on a game. Sure someone may have 100,000 kills, but maybe they've played 20,000 battles. As opposed to the guy who has 100,000 kills and has only played 10,000 battles. The same thing can easily be done for WP.
2) This also serves to show how experienced a player actually is. You can have played since beta, but if you only do 2-3 battles a day, many who joined later will have seen more battles than you.
3) This will discourage players from leaving battles. If you leave in the middle of a battle that you've spawned in, you won't be able to get anymore kills/WP for that battle. This means effectively, that your average impact will go down. The stat padders will be forced to play through a whole game to try and scrounge up a few more kills/WP.

Aren't win and loss stats in the game? You could easily add them together to figure out the number of matches played.

I think that it is only W/L ratio, not the actual number.
I could be wrong though.

Yes, last I checked there wasn't a stat for how many games you've won, and lost. It's simply a ratio, and you can't really figure out how many games you've played from there. Not to mention I'm fairly certain you can avoid having a loss added if you simply leave battle before the game ends.
