I'm a relative noob. This character has actually been around since the open Beta, but I've only recently started really playing, and quickly decided CFW was the place to be. I've been playing CFW now for quite some time, thinking, quite reasonably I thought, that I was playing for Caldari, against Gallente. Just recently, though, I've been told that I might not actually be fighting for Caldari at all, due to the matching system and I would like to get some sort of definitive statement on this to clear it up for me.
On another thread people are complaining about Gallente dominating, but there are those who are lamenting that Caldari are actually dominating. Both sides seem to know the teams that are on the opposition and have no trouble identifying whether they are Caldari or Gallente and that they are on the right team, but is that actually correct?
When the teams are populating I've noticed I'm just as often on the "red" team (in pubs or FW) as the blue but by the time the match starts, my team has become "blue". For CFW, the names of the red and blue teams are of course, either State Peacekeepers or Federal Marines, but I'm very often in the "wrong" (red) team until the match starts. But looking at the opposing team I had come to the conclusion the teams were correct, just in the process of being populated. For instance, I've noticed War Ravens are always on the opposition, so I have come to think they always play GFW.
I have believed that this was just mechanics of the matchmaking system, but now I'm told it's because I'm actually not fighting for the team I expected to (Cal, in CFW). Are other people experiencing the same thing, and if so, what are you making of it? Until I was told this, I had no doubt I was fighting for Caldari. I thought I had recognised the Corps of the teams which typically were playing either Cal or Gal, ie. with or against me, and there didn't seem to be any inconsistency there. But now, I'm told it is all a lie, that I'm just playing for whatever team Scotty puts me into. This contradicts my own observations, but if true, completely changes my stance on FW.
I've also recently noticed I sometimes am playing against players who seem to be seasoned vets, playing in Caldari State gear but for Gallente. I know that's not impossible, but how unlikely is it? I know as a loyal Caldari, I would never sell my State Peacekeeper gear to anyone, let alone the opposition. But I've also noticed there are those who seem to swap sides, players who used to fight for Caldari, who are now fighting for Gallente. Are they just fighting for whoever is winning? Obviously if true, this could be the reason for what I'm seeing.
I have never until now had any doubts that I was being matched into teams that were all fighting CFW. It is only being told otherwise which has made me wonder. Any thoughts? |

As long as you only queue CFW , you will only get CFW. The screen names are often glitched , so they switched places. For example it will say you fight for the State Peacekeepers instead of the Gallente Federation. If you see guys in the gallente side with caldari gear , they're most likely faction hoppers or bandwaggoners ... or just have a mixed amount of racial dropsuits. Full faction loyalists elitists are pretty rare nowadays. Even I gave up Minmatar.

When I was told it was otherwise, it just made no sense to me, regardless of the team name glitchy thing. By the time the match actually starts, I'm always on the blue team, and that's the same in pubs as well. That's why I came to the conclusion it was just part of matching mechanics.
Apparently there are other games that use similar matching, and don't adhere to any rules about which team you have expressed a preference for. I didn't think that Dust was one of them. In fact, if matching actually allowed balancing by moving a player from one team to another, surely FW matches would be easier to make, similar to pubs and we would have many more FW matches than we do. The way FW was described to me, it was just pubs with the names of the opposing corporations replaced by "State Peacekeepers" and "Federal Marines".

In regards to not finding matches, long wait times, and Gal stomping Cal and vise versa, it is all related to the time of day you queue up for the match.
Some of the CFW stompers play at a certain time and some GFW stompers play at another. Then there are times where no one queues or there are too little people in the queue to do FW. Of course there is always that sweet spot time where the GFW stompers fight the CFW stompers, but you don't get to see that too often.

This would tend to explain why sometimes my team absolutely dominates, but others gets trounced. I've tended to be on the losing side for much of the time lately. Perhaps I should vary my times a bit... I prefer matches that are fairly even, and not dominated by stompers of either variety. On the winning side of a stomper match of course, I get good LP, but on either side, I get hardly any WP. That is improving now, though. I guess just persevering is giving its benefits.... :) |
