Nope. He's skipping a lot of the parts. And he's going over on the base price. He didn't add in a kb/m, WiFi/Ethernet modules, proper internal cooling like johnny said. Guess you can't build a PC that beats the ps4 at the same price.
Whoever got you guys running around rambling "proper internal cooling" has played a cruel joke on you.
AMD processors come with a great stock heat sync and fan.
Nearly every graphics card made in the last 10 years comes with a stock fan. This of course doesn't not include the super low end Radeon type cards which are going to freeze up before they can get hot enough if you are putting any real load on them.
Nearly every case comes with at very minimum a front 120mm fan. Not like $5 for an additional 120mm LED fan is really going to break the build budget.
Unless you plan on wrapping your PC in a blanket "proper internal cooling" is not even close to an issue.
On to the price thing. you are correct that $450 probably will not cover it for a mid level rig. The funny thing is that is going to leave you in dump town on the PS4.
Lets look at some numbers over a 4 year period.
PS4 Bundle with 1 game = $350 + tax + shipping = $380 (rough number)
PS+ 1 year membership = $50 * 4 years assuming no price changes = $200
Basic level full headset = $50
Additional games = $50 each (averaged for sales and discounts) * 2 games every 6 months = $800
DLCs on each game I will not add in because that is highly variable just remember that possible cost is there.
For the average person in 4 years you can assume 1 replacement controller = $60
So now in a 4 year period to get basic enjoyment out of your shiny new PS4 we are at $1,490 not including DLCs and possible extra controllers.
A well built PC from current parts currently would have no problem lasting 4 years with zero upgrades. No it will not be running 4k but it will hold 1080p @ 60 - 120hz on any game out there which is far more than the PS4 can say.
This "well built PC" I mention is probably going to run you about $800 - $850 including all of the essentials plus a basic headset and an adjustable gaming mouse.
Steam is not a subscription service.
Additional games we will call a $30 average thanks to never ending sales and an amazing amount of free games.
For the same number of games as my PS4 example = $480
Replacement of the gaming mouse I mentioned $50.
Putting the grand total at $1,380.
My point here is all of you guys arguing over price point are wasting your time. On top of my above estimates, the more active you are in PC gaming the more it will cost and the more active you are on PS4 the more it will cost. The only difference is what form the cash grab really takes on.
Ultimately the PC does have a higher up front cost with cheaper participation and more long term abilities through small upgrades.
Where the port may or may not goI have already said in my previous analysis of CCP that I very strongly believe that PS4 is the way to go from both a community standpoint and from a monetary stand point for CCP.
Stop with the wasting time on PC versus PS4 debate. We get it, you like console and do not want to build a PC. We get it you think PC is far better. I have both sitting right here and can tell you that like everything else in life they both have their strengths and weaknesses so it comes down to preference.
In terms of arguing on where the port is going, STOP WASTING YOUR BREATH. CCP has very likely been working on the Legion code in the background this whole time while they farm the PS3 players for all of the money they can. This means that a platform has long been decided and nothing you say here is anything more than blowing hot air.
Before you PC guys say SEE THEY BEEN BUILDING IT just remember that the PS4 is internally structured to resemble a PC meaning they could have literally dropped the code over and started working on a control scheme and basic optimizations at any time. There is simply no way to know where they will end up without waiting.
If all you guys would put this effort into telling CCP it is time to break the silence and quit dumping on the future of this game a few people giving up at a time we would probably already have a freaking announcement.
