I had at least 100-200 hate mails in my inbox saved up.

Was there an inbox purge at some point? I had a plan for all of those..

Hate mail was a large part of why I played Dust 514.

We have identified multiple factors contributing to a reduction of performance, deteriorating both over time and in relation to the playerGÇÖs activity. The number of emails, contacts and chat channels all contribute to the problem, as well as loading avatar thumbnails into the chat channels. We will therefore be removing as many references to these thumbnails in as many places as possible, including but not limited to the in-battle chat and the Contacts NEOCOM menu and implementing the following downtime jobs

Deleting all emails older than 30 days from all players
Deleting all chat channels that have not been used in 7 days

Yes, of all the changes ever made to DUST-514, THIS ONE was the most unfortunate. Dust is slowly moving in the direction of EVE, which includes using mail extensively for all non-realtime comms.

Deleting members' mail means unfortunately you're deleting sometime their ONLY connection with players they have made contact with for essential advice, trading, PC planning, or new networking possibilities.

That's something AWFUL to do, in a game that is strengthened through regular player socializing and connections.

Until CCP can remove the 30-day deletion mechanic (actually more like 28-days, so be mindful, players)... use the NeoCom extensively to protect your emailing:

---Make sure every player you've had an important mails with is 'ADD'ed to you "Contacts" list in the NeoCom. This has to be done manually; it's not automatic.

---Use your ALT character as your supplemental mailbox. FORWARD all your important mails to your ALT----then after 20 days forward them BACK from your alt to your first character. This is a danged pain, but the only way to preserve mail. Remember, you have to keep doing this every 20 days of so (DON'T wait for that 30-day concept---you'll wake up and find your mail gone!)

---Consider using the PS3 "Friend-ADD" option, to mail to your most valued contacts using the console's message system, and leave the NeoCom only for sending disposable messages.

That is why I forward all my received hate mails to my Eve alt where they are all beautifully labeled.
