If you are more of a head to head guy and you need a bit more protection may I suggest specking into a heavy. The ammar, caldari and minmatar heavies are pretty good. You can run them as assault depending on your fitting. For example in my ammar I put a damage mod 2 kincats and two repairs. Or 1 kincat 1 repair and a ferroscale. This allows me to repair fast and move fast. It can run as fast as an assault suit with the plus of having the fire power of the heavy machine gun and a lot of armor and shields. You can do similar setups with the caldari and minmatar. Try 2 damage mods on a caldari and shield re chargers. Kill 3 guys, hide for a few seconds and have full health again.

The caldari and gallente play different. With the caldari you can't duke it out. You have to shoot the guy a few times and if he doesn't die you must hide. Your shields will regenerate in seconds so you will kill him on the second go around. The gallente can go one on one for much longer especially since armor regen continue working even under fire. The catch is that you must hide for longer if you are going for the second round. Also you move slower depending on your setup.

I think that with the caldari you need a lot more strafing.

Suits: Am H and Assault. I've got all core upgrade I need maxed although I should probably max nanocircutry. All armor upgrades maxed. Everything is how I want it to be except I want to change weapon and suit. I also have about a mil of sp spread out but I don't really want to skill into 2 of the CQC weapons yet until I have everything else taken care of. Yes, I actually did that my first 4 months of playing because I had no idea what I was doing XD it was effective, I'll give it that. The AR is great right now especially if you use Gal Assault. The only issue is it is more SP intensive because to get the most out of it you have to also upgrade the "marksman" skill ( or whatever its called that increases your firing range accuracy)

I also was growing bored of the ScR so this has brought me a new interest. The only mistake I made is not trying a darths before I respeced.
