Paradox Interactive Acquires White Wolf Publishing from CCP Games New Paradox Subsidiary will Operate Independently and Manage All White Wolf Properties, Including World of Darkness and Vampire: The Masquerade
STOCKHOLM - Oct. 29, 2015 - Paradox Interactive, a global games developer and publisher, today announced the acquisition of White Wolf Publishing from CCP Games in an all-cash deal. Now a subsidiary of Paradox Interactive, White Wolf Publishing is a licensing business that owns and manages intellectual properties including World of Darkness, Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse. Led by CEO Tobias Sj+¦gren, former EVP of Business Development at Paradox, White Wolf Publishing will operate as an independent entity with a dedicated team.
White Wolf Publishing has a long history of producing gaming universes that span mediums, including tabletop and collectible card games, PC games and books. Paradox Interactive acquired all of White WolfGÇÖs brands, and its new subsidiary will pursue development opportunities across relevant categories of games under the White Wolf Publishing name.
GÇ£Like ParadoxGÇÖs games, White WolfGÇÖs properties have dedicated, passionate communities. While there are similarities in spirit, White WolfGÇÖs IPs have very different themes than ParadoxGÇÖs titles, and deserve their own brand and team,GÇ¥ said Fredrik Wester, CEO and President of Paradox Interactive. GÇ£We have great respect for White WolfGÇÖs gaming worlds and see big opportunities for their expansion in the future under our new subsidiary.GÇ¥
GÇ£Over the last 20 years, IGÇÖve had the opportunity to work with beloved studios like DICE and Paradox on the business management side of games, and as a developer earlier in my career. I look forward to bringing my experience to bear as we pursue new ways to interact with White WolfGÇÖs universes,GÇ¥ said Tobias Sj+¦gren, CEO of White Wolf Publishing. GÇ£The White Wolf IPs are well suited for all kinds of media and we see great potential to expand them in the future.GÇ¥
"At CCP, we have great admiration for the White Wolf brands and communities, and it was extremely important to us that the acquiring company share the same respect and understanding,GÇ¥ said Hilmar Veigar P+¬tursson, CEO of CCP Games. GÇ£With Paradox, we know we are leaving the brands in good hands." |

I hope if Dust 514 is sold that we then get Developer Obsidian to make a proper alpha build for a PS4? |

Unlikely as hell. I think Half Life 3 released before Christmas is more likely.
Selling off World of Darkness is one thing. But DUST is tied to EVE or at the very least, New Eden. It would mean selling off part of their intellectual property that is tied to a long running and successful MMO as well as the upcoming baby Valkyrie. There are simply too many implications.
WoD is not connected to New Eden so selling it doesn't touch the big cash cow.

the main cash cow here is Eve Online not dust 514.
what happens when the main cash cow no longer produces the cash at the levels that CCP needs?

Well CCP are actually making some big, surprising and possibly very interesting changes to EVE coming up over the next few months to a year so who knows....
Maybe CCP has finally got its act together? Now all we need is juicy DUST info. |

Drops in eve online subscribers https://www.vg247.com/2015/06/29/eve-onlines-player-count-drops-to-lowest-since-2008/ My post edit is quite out of date now but I think it still holds. DUST is set in New Eden and even has some connection to EVE at this moment. Character names, Corporations, mails, etc. Selling that would give another company foothold into New Eden. I don't see that happening, to be honest.
Plus, other articles just list it as "Paradox buys White Wolf" rather than going farther into whether EVE will be sold.
Is it possible? Yes but I don't see CCP doing that.

Not sure if they would sell it or if they would scrap their current dev team and sell the license to work on the game to another development company that can get things done quicker and better.

Unlikely. WoD and white wolf had a little bit of autonomy inside CCP. Hell at fanfest they even had White Wolf on their clothes in addition to CCP's logo.
Dust is technically part of the eve universe meaning is more or less part of the same IP so has little to nothing to do with white wolf. I don't see CCP selling anything that has New Eden's handprint on it.

if WoD was an orphan child ccp was the abusive foster parent locking it up in a cage feeding it bread and water and using the money given by the state to supply their meth habbit. lets hope the new parents are kind loving and capable.

CCP has committed to focusing on products tied to EVE and New Eden. Why would totally give up Dust, when competitors like Frontier and Cloud Imperium are adding FPS modules to their own games. CCP has a product that exists, even if it's not all it could have been.

Your right they wont give Dust up, one possibility though is that they could sell the license to work on the game to a development company that can get things done better and faster. While CCP still owns the game and doesn't have to pour its own $$ into the game except for maybe advertising. And maybe they could have the current devs from the shanghai team watch over whatever dev company they sell the license to just to make sure things are being done the way they want but better.

Careful to hope for new devs taking over. As bad as some of our experiences have been, these new devs won't know that stuff 100%.
The direction they could decide to take the game in could be far worse than its current state?!
Getting more devs on board to help would be best! Rat man needs help, not a pink slip?!

The prior population numbers were ALWAYS over-inflated due to the number of active users running input macros across a multitude of Alt accounts.
To put that in perspective, some players used tools like that to control up to 24 characters with one computer.

Hmm I didn't know they did that, still maybe it's time to outsource the entire development of the game. I don't know if there is any progress that's been made towards a port at all and this is CCP we're talking about so I'm going to assume that there's only been this skeleton crew working on Dust and some other folks working on Gunjack in Shanghai. So maybe since they've gotten a whole bunch of $$ recently maybe they should just get other dev companies that can get things done and are experienced with working on console games as well.
