Lets face it, Active Scanners are kind of in a strange place. There are too many variants, including the Standard, Flux, Quantom, Stable, Proximity, and Focussed. With many being somewhat redundant, or just not that useful at all, only a few get used actively by me and some probably dont get used at all by the community. Scan Precision is entirely based on tier, and only sometimes based on variation type, cooldowns and scan durations are kind of based on tier as well. It just feels like a hodge podge of ideas with no general progression theme in mind.
I have put some numbers here in a doc for people to review.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Nb2PjRIaOyh_usL57fonOuT8y0FuoEr5OeNKTQb3oW4/edit?usp=sharing
My basic idea is that we should eliminate all but three variations of the scanner, and give each one a distinct purpose.
The standard active scanner scans the farthest, with the middle ground of scan degrees, and the middle ground of scan precision, cooldown, and target visibility.
The Proximity Scanner has the widest scan angle, the shortest range, the worst precision and scan duration, but also the best cooldown.
The Focussed Scanner has the lowest scan angle, middle scan range, the longest scan duration and best precision, but has the worst cooldown.
Then I take a look at each tier. Scan precision does change at each tier, as well as scan duration and cooldown, but there is variation within each tier and based entirely on the variant of scanner used.
I used a few key general ideas for these decisions as well.
Scan duration should be about 1/3 of cooldown at basic level, around 41% of cooldown at advanced level, and around 1/2 of cooldown at prototype level. But in order to make lower tier scanners still somewhat relevant, I increased cooldown at each tier, so while lower tier scanners might not last as long, you can scan more often. I tried to keep the ratio's about the same for each variant as well.
Each scanner type has its own progression of scan precision, but I feel isnt entirely useless either.
It was my hope that each variant of scanner would be useful, and that even some of the scanners at lower tiers would not be so over shadowed by a few prototype scanners that they are no longer useable.
Anyhoo, please leave feedback. If you don't like my numbers or ideas, maybe you have some suggestions to improve upon this? |

+1 for Active Scanner overhaul. Very much like that this proposal is within reach of a Hotfix. The numbers look OK on first glance, though don't hold me to that (I'll give 'em a more thorough look later).
One thing I would suggest is that we increase the WP pay from Active Scans. While Active Scans are absolutely overpowered -- especially in the hands of GalLogi -- they are underpowered when it comes to WP pay relative to that of other Support EQ. If for no other reason than for the sake of Logi intra-class parity, Scan Assist WP should be increased.

Definitely tidies up the scanner family, so +1 for that.
It doesn't really address the problem of scanners being a 'must have' piece of equipment via their ability to track enemies, in real time, through walls, on screen, and from quite far away.. IMO they should have 2 range stats each, a short (~15m) one for on-screen tagged enemies and regular one for tagging enemies on the minimap.
Also the lower tiered ones might end up being preferred due to their ability to take a 'snapshot' of the enemies more often (short duration but equally short cooldown). I like this because it introduces a specialization aspect to the tiers rather than the boring next-tier-more-powerful-than-the-last scheme.
Something is killing new player retention.

Do you think with the stats I have on all 3 variants that each would be likely to be used or that one is clearly better to use all the time? None have the rediculous 200m range that the creodron flux has right now. |

Maybe a small buff to profile damps? Or maybe lower some suits db? Or both?
And Banjo, I can see a clear reason to use each variant.

Change it so that only the user can see the results of the scan and those in the squad that want to tap into the Intel have to use a slot. The Intel received will be static. |
