I need some advice from people with plenty of experience using the Ion Pistol.
When I first started using the Ion Pistol I found that if I were to fire that thing as fast as I can my rounds would fly all over the place in random directions. I assumed what was happening was that I was firing the gun faster than my merc could recover from the kick of firing a shot. After slowing down the speed that I would fire the gun the weapon became much more manageable.
That doesn't seem to work anymore for me though.
Now when I try to rapid fire the weapon at what had been an effective ROF for me my rounds now are constantly flying in all directions no matter what. It's almost like I can no longer rapid fire the gun with any degree of reliability to it.
If I ADS with the Ion Pistol then the accuracy is fine but because for some nonsensical reason my ability to aim left and right being incredibly slow while aiming down the sight I am not able to ADS with that weapon when the enemy is extremely close to me.
This Ion Pistol issue I am having is much more prevalent when I am using my GalScout than it is when I am using my GalAssault. I am currently practicing and working on building up my skills with the GalScout and the unreliability of the Ion Pistol is becoming one of my biggest issues.
Anyone have any advice on getting the Ion Pistol to consistently fire straight ahead instead of firing in all other directions?

Dispersion on that thing is mental, only way to really lower it is sharpshooter and Gal assault to 5. Charge shots do tend to go where you aim them though.
Also, Ratman needs to change to fitting op skill on that thing cos Cpu just isn't an issue.

As a Galscout using Ion Pistols.. that CPU reduction saves my ass. We don't need to make everything more effective on a medium frame
Sharpshooter 5 helps, it's a decent weapon.. so any changes all I'll say is "proceed with caution"

I skilled Ion Pistols since CCP nerfed Scrambler pistols and its rate of fire. I-¦m a gallente scout and i really enjoy using them , when i noticed that ion pistol has an extra skill , the accuracy , of course level 5 ( 850.000 sp ). If you want a decent performance, you should skill accuracy even before than proficency ....
The first times you use Ion Pistol , you might think this gun su cks , it-¦s a very close range weapon , but in that moment you can-¦t see how funny is , specially when you have in front of you a Caldari.
And what about the charge shoot ? lots , lots , lots of damage for your opponents , last resource when you are deadly and have to hide behind a corner .... and it-¦s good remedy against other scouts. |

I have all the skills for the Ion Pistol at Level 5.
The weapon seems manageable on my GalAssault but I think that is because of the GalAssault suit bonus that reduces the dispersion and kick of the gun.
Trying to use the Ion Pistol with my GalScout is when I have the issues.

I am always lacking some CPU with PG to spare
So it depends on the frame, Assaults gain a fitting bonus for it so that reduces costs there.. if the bonus was changed to effect PG I would struggle to fit anything more than basic and have even more PG available. Each to his own I suppose

Probably because you are used to it on GalAss with the accuracy bonus.
I only use it on Gal Scout and enjoy running it, Boll Spirit seems to agree, so it's depends on practice I think

Yeah you'll need sharpshooter and Gallente assault to level 5.
With the Ion Pistol you only use charge shots against enemies that are going to die in one shot like scouts are low health enemies. There's one exception and that's with heavies in CQC. They are outputting too much damage to 1v1 but if you pop in and out of cover and keep away from all that DPS you can alpha damage him to death with a few shots.
Everything else, don't charge shot, just use semi auto, which has wild dispersion.

-_-
Anyways-
Get it to pro.
Pro galass=least dispersion.
Use damage damage mods
Heavies- semi charge and spam and take cover. Rinse and repeat. I have found constant semi charge shots useful after x amount of spams.
Light- full charge can kill, spam if needed after
Medium- spam.

I currently have all skills for the Ion Pistol at Level 5.
I am actually a little baffled with the Ion Pistol right now. In a Skirmish match I was just in I took a little time to test out my accuracy with the Ion Pistol by firing it at a rock formation (I'm using my GalScout for this). When firing at a specific point on the rock formation my accuracy was pretty much perfect; even when I was moving around and jumping all over the place spamming shots as fast as I could it seemed like pretty much all my rounds would land where I wanted them. In that same match I tried to use the Ion Pistol against a redberry and my rounds went all over the place.
It almost feels like Aim Assist is doing the exact opposite of what it is supposed to do when I use the Ion Pistol with my GalScout.
Hopefully a bit more practice with the Ion Pistol will remedy my current situation with it. |

I think the bolt pistol stole the Ion pistols hit detection and added it to it's own.

Basically ^
It's currently my only sidearm, and I use it on my assault, scout, and sentinel.
The assault can make it sing with the hipfire bonus, but on the scout I think the strafe speed of the scout, while you're trying to avoid damage, causes the massive dispersion problem. Also charge shots with the scout is suicide as you don't have the tank to spend anytime overheated?!
On the Sentinel it is surprising for the enemy to be wielding such alpha dmg on the sidearm! Everyone expects the bolt pistol, but the greatest combo to me is six kin/Ion pistol in CQC! It has the opposite effect on the Sentinel from the scout. It aims very well because you don't strafe much at all.
