I'm not clear on why things are shut down during the week when you aren't doing obvious updates, but if there is any way to get some servers up, of any kind, lots of us would appreciate it. |

i think we all would like that, but they have them down to work on them and the game. would you rather have 100% of the ccp team consintrating on making dust perfect or only 50% whilst the others have to maintain the servers. |

I always felt 24 hours a day for 4 days is kinda genorous for a closed beta. |

Keep in mind that this is a work in progress, and that we're playing the beta to give them data. Honestly, I'm surprised that they gather data for four days and analyze it for only three. It would make more sense to me to do it the other way around.

I would be nice to have access in the evening throughout the week, as I think I could probably log more play time that way and thus provide more data. Ultimately, however, it has to be about what is best for the devs. I can see a daily collect-then-analyze cycle as being very overwhelming. |

It is my understanding that the servers remain online during the week and they are only accessible to CCP employees and select testers from sony QA, at which time they are using unreleased builds to test in conditions with more realistic latency, as opposed to internal LANs and VPNS. They are always analyzing data, not just during the week.
I could be mistaken, though. |

I think you are, no offense. The couldn't put up different versions of the game on the same servers. Could they? |

I had the impression that they were gradually letting more and more people in the game in order to stress test the servers. Restricting it to the weekends helps with this, as you addicts go through withdrawals during the week, so when Thursday comes around, you all put life on hold and everyone plays at once. So because you're a bunch of addicts who couldn't get a fix during the week, you all log on en masse on the weekends, stressing the servers with sheer numbers.
(Semi) Pure speculation though...I do know that I read something about stress testing... |

If they lack #'s to test, they simply need to give out more keys. Removing Slay would clearly open the floodgates ;)
They have the resources allocated for lots of servers at launch, I suspect, so I doubt it's a lack of hardware.
Analytics programs quickly analyze data in mere moments, I doubt it takes more than 1/2 a day to process the data, and analyzing it doesn't require access to the servers.
If anything, I suspect it's just that they don't have a desire/need to. I respect that, and don't want to be a hassle. Just expressing interest in playing at other times than some of my busiest days of the week. :)
Feel free to step in and defend a perceived bash to CCP with imagined arguments, but there's no offense made. I just like the game and would love to play it more. ;) If it's not possible, then no worries. |

I was about to argue but yeah they should only need about a day each week to analyze the data and we only have a few hundred so it should not take that long. |

Analytics programs only can feed you data they know how to interpret. In an actual beta (like DUST 514s) part of what you're looking for are the things you didn't think about or expect. And if you didn't think to tell the analytics program to look for it, it's not going to see it.
I think you're thinking the purpose of the beta is simply to stress-test the code (which I'll admit is something those types of programs are good for understanding). This beta is more about helping them build the code in the first place, the stress-testing part comes in later. An analogy I've used before: they're building an engine that isn't finished yet. And just as you don't stress test a half-finished car engine, there isn't much point in stress testing a half-finished game engine. |
