Let's tinfoil hat for a moment about Legion, because there's something wrong here.
Firstly, say hello to Legion, and remember, this isn't a 'tech demo'
What it is, is proof that CCP has all the mechanics in place, working, and in order. It's missing some UI interface, and integrations. This is just a few months away from possible Beta testing.
2 years later - why has this taken so long?
Simple answer:
They changed everything again, probably to fit a PS4 port. Probably waiting for Morpheus to launch with Valkyire to tie the accounts together, separately from Dust.
What do you guys think? |

postapo wastelander wrote:Possible, but since no info im really sceptical here. Fit ps4 port..ehm..why everyone talking about port.
What i know Ps4 is completely different structure than Ps3.
ergo
They need to make everything from scratch. Yup maybe they can use some textures and mod them to new engine. But all other thingies they need to do once again.
If there will be version for Pc i will be out (since im not in to buy of the new iron). If there will be version for ps4 i will ask first how CCP want to play it.
If there will be subcription im out again, i already spent big money on this "f2p". If there will be F2P what we have now without anything else, im fine and i will looking forward (if i will buy Ps4). If thee will be P2P (pay2play) scheme (like in ACE right now) i will be out.
Easy peasy, im not against but honestly i will prefere to stay here and fix. Before they will make new one. PS3 tech is irrelevant, they made Legion using PC, which is closely related to PS4 coding. It's no stretch of the imagination to say it's easier to port Legion then Dust, especially since after 4 years of Dust Development and going through firing developer after developer - they don't fully understand Dust's code to port over.
Legion is a fresh start on the matter. Which is why it's easy to assume Legion is going to PS4, not Dust, and the only reason they'd wait on release or testing is to tie it with the Valkyrie release coming eventually. |

The tinfoil continues:
Dust and Legion stats will be exactly the same, Dust will test Power Cores while they still prepare to launch Valkyrie. When the time comes, they'll release legion, and all the mechanics found in this game will be there - but better, and with a deeper connection to EvE
Dust will be to Legion as BF3 was to BF4 - just a technical upgrade, with a few minor improvements *Movement, for a BF4 example*
so it's actually the case to say everything we do here is to prepare for Legion, as they'll be the same exact game with a different coat of paint.
If you check out the link in OP - this is CLEARLY the case. An improved UI, deeper integration, better graphics - same mechanics as Dust.
That's what we've wanted all along, so it makes perfect sense, and it explains why CCP has been quiet about Legion, to avoid back-lash of having mostly finished Legion a year ago, but was afraid of the consequences of losing Dust completely after all there spending. Dust just started making money, they didn't want to ruin that with Legion information, making people quit and prepare for that. |

What's going to stop us from stomping the **** out of everyone when it releases? That's the beauty - Dust will exist, your assets, time spent, it'll all be here. So when Legion gets ported, "Hey, it's a different game, don't ask for stuff we didn't promise."
"But what we will do, is give you a head start for being a loyal customer." - Bam, we'll get the 1,000,000 SP equilvent bonus we got in Open Beta (If you guys didn't know, closed beta vets were given items and SP for participating)
the concept of Risk vs Reward will be altered, and so will the value of SP and ISK - rather then translate it, they'll give you a bonus package to give you a head start, and wish ya luck. And people will honestly be happy about it depending on how good Legion is. |

There's another point here to make, much like EvE, Dust is perpetually an infinite beta. It never truly 'commercial launched' as CCP lied about back in 5/13/2013.
The reason CCP does this isn't so they can drastically change the game at any point, never needing new installments to sell you.
It's so they can cut corners, duck and run, and generally behave as they please, because what you're playing isn't your property, it's there's, so your experience and time spent here was always for there benefit over your enjoyment.
It's pretty sketchy to handle things this way, but that's CCP for ya. |

SILENTSAM 69 wrote:They wont need to reset anything. If the video that was shown is any indication they can likely just make some higher tiers and all new types of game play. They can more easily separate high and low and null sec and us vets would likely be the first to start doing the SOV stuff, while all the new people would fight each other in highsec.
We could go stomping in highsec, but there will be things for new people to do without worrying about us. Things like PvE mission running. I never thought of this - Keep everything as is, port to to legion, then create 4 more tiers of gear whose stats make the other gear useless.
But then the problem is our SP and respecs, we still would have too much of an edge, but it may actually work if enough vets rejoined and enough new players joined, then we could separate like we've always wanted too.
Would be an interesting opportunity |
