CCP has taken a step to curb officer gear proliferation by halting officer gear production from the Warbarge Experimental Lab.
Let's take this further by encouraging player to remove their officer stockpiles in exchange for a unique custom SKIN.
Donate either, 250 Weapons or 50 Suits to the NPC vendor and receive a SKIN. Variations of the SKIN for different dropsuit types may be dependent on the type of officer weapons you sell/donate to the NPC vendor.

Where is this news you speak of with officer gear stopping?
This makes me happy if true.
EDIT
Found it. Wow they kept the component cost I guess. Another half fix |

I'm pretty sure officer gear is more useful than a nice look. Just sayin.

I've always sold back at standard price the officer gear I can't use/don't want... I've never understood the benefit of selling it to other players who are just going to turn around and use it against me |

If it was something just slightly better than a loyalty suit like say higher PG and CPU I'd be interested. A skin would be great but the number is high. I've yet to use an officer weapon however I doubt many stomping vets would give up an advantage like officer gear for a skin but good idea. |

What you do is you use the ISK you make from selling the Officer Gear to people and go around and purchase Officer Gear that you would actually use to fight against the same people you originally sold your stuff to.

Would that not necessitate having Jara?
I'd totally sell every officer item I have (except one version of muh suits, 'cause vanity) for some skins. BUT I have the basic sell interface screen thingamajig, not the advanced sell interface thingamaboob.

What if it was something so intimidating and exclusive that it had the same effect of seeing an officer item down your sights?
Jove skin? OH! I know this game doesn't need anymore overhead, but some sort of stat track system?
Maybe have a competition to have a set of SKINs named and designed by the players, depending on which groups handed in the highest number of officer items? I know the RP'ers jump on this stuff in Eve.
OR they could do the same handing in system, but the players get to choose the type and design of a new set of specialized weapons that are meant to replace officer stuff (give CCP a chance to do a proper balance pass before handing them out) Think like proto stats but with interchangable parts like optics/magazines/barrels/attachments. T3 weapon systems. A guy can dream, right?
Also, if CCP really flag this as a problem then they can just make whatever they offer a limited time offer, after which all the offending items go *poof*

To be honest, officer gear is probably wasted on a player like me... It's fun to screw around with on occasion, but proto works fine enough for me |
