Being reading "Templar One" the EVE book explaining the origin of the Dust 514 mercs in preparation for this game and in the book it describes a tripwire mine known as the "Flay Trap". Thought it sounded epic for this game. Here's what the book said about it.
Quote:A "flay trap" was the nickname given to an antipersonnel mine of Amarr design. Instead of using explosive power to inflict damage this weapon used a magnetic coil to accelerate four monofilament wires. Each wire had a single ceramic or lead counterweight on one end; the other was tethered to a base culinder that could spin freely in a frictionless hub. Once detonated- usually remotely using hidden motion dectectors- the cylinder was accelerated to several hundred revolutions per second. At maximum speed, the outer shell was lowered, releasing the steel counterweights in a tight spin whoose diameter expanded up to ten meters as the monofilament unraveled. At the fully extended position, the shell "bounced" back toward the starting closed position angling the weights upward as they spun, repeating until the spin energy dissipated.
The microfilaments, also known as monomolecular wire, consisted of tightly bonded metal-composite molecules, making it an especially sharp cutting edge. They passed through flesh, bone, and light metals effortlessly.
Anything within the hemispherical killzone of the cylinder was literally flayed to bits. The only sound it made - besides falling chunks of flesh - was of the lead couterweights zipping through the air at the speed of sound.
Would be kind epic to have a tripwire mine that activated and created a field of damage over time for any players around it. Just a thought. A lot of the other stuff in this book is already in the game. |

I would really like to see a sorta engineer class used with the logistics suit to place tripwires, traps, mines and other fun filled items. It could add a fun element to game and add a whole level of tactics and planning when you gotta worry about that stuff!!!! |

In the orriginal planet side you could make yourself an engineer placing senor beacons make cloaked units and others show up on the radar screen. They could place explosives/mines was a fun class to play the posibilities with DUST are endless I love it!!! |

This really sounded more like a Minmatar style weapon to me, the kind of devious little thing a Sebeistor inventor would come up with
But I guess the Amarr are pretty ****ed up people
Definitely hope they add this, along with a couple of twists on the land mine from the other factions as well, instead of just a vanilla click boom mine |

Sand crab mines. Buried in the ground, if you pass close enough they dig out, scuttle after you and blow up. Ten second scuttle time then they just explode and hope they get the poor guy that's following you.
Spider web mines. Slows everyone down by 50% for 10 seconds within 10 meters of the mine. One shot only. Set off by the first enemy that come by.
Vampire mines. Depending on the type drain shield or stamina while you are in their area of effect. They have a total of shield or stamina point drain and last as long as there is any left. 10 meter radius and the effect goes on as long as you are in range and they have points left. |
