Do you think it would help newer players if the proficiency skill were unlocked at level 3? An example being little billy just leveled up shotguns to level 3, now shotgun proficiency is unlocked, and he can now level it up if he wants to. If little billy levels up shotguns to level 4 he unlocks the ammo and reload skills.
thoughts?

Having been away from this game since MGSV dropped and coming back to play a couple of games last night and despite the dust experience feeling a bit like wading through treacle with 2 broken legs yet still managing to go 16/3 solo in Dom I can honestly say that you could give the majority of players a maxxed skill tree and they would still be ****.
Oh... And YAY!! ban over |

... okay... is there more constructive thoughts? I honestly feel that it's kind of rude that you only get all these bonuses when you have the gun that just flat out has more damage.

Little billy should not waste SP on a proficiency, that's why you unlock it at level 5. Because it is not a core skill, it cost more SP and the skillbook also costs a lot. Have it behind the block of lvl 5 is a protection for newbros ( and also a barrier for fake newbros aka bittervets)

Honestly...
If you search through the forums you will find this idea has been mentioned at least once before over a year and a half ago, I know this as it was my main who started the topic. In part I agree with you, the part I disagree with is LVL 3 - i believe weapon proficiency shouldn't be locked at all. |

Lol Sax just threatened to get me kicked out of my Corp and put a bounty on my head all because of my turdrock protostomping thread.
He's gonna try and make my new player experience worse than they already do through stomps, real class act! |

Yes, but mostly no. New players need access to equipment, weaponry, grenades, PG/CPU reductions, shield and armor skills, biotics, etc. before they even think about weapon proficiencies.
The big challenge to a new player is picking a suit, getting that suit up to a usable level (which is nasty if they pick scout because the scout bonuses arent balanced until proto level, esp dampening on Cal/Gal), getting weapons that they are comfy with, getting armor and shields to a decent level, and so on and so forth.
To add to this challenge, new players DO NOT KNOW THAT THEY NEED ALL THIS. Essentially they are ******. |

These proposed ideas are not bad, but I feel it's too much work for CCP. I've beat this dead horse plenty, but meta lock would be the easiest way to avoid new players from getting instant killed.
New players don't complain about squad tactics or someone out playing them, the single most common story posted here is "why do I get the drop on players, unload a clip into their back and they turn around and instakill me?"
People think that a meta lock means they don't get to use their proto or that queue times will change. Queue times will change for the proto vs proto bracket, don't want to wait to use your proto? Equip lower MU and enjoy.
It's not like proto suits are some god given right, they are just the best available suits in game. And they shouldn't be able to go up against the weakest suits in the game.
Pretty much any competitive game separates players based on equipment or character experience, why should Dust allow the strongest against the weakest? |

I think it would be better to give newberries more starting SP and ISK instead. I don't like the idea of giving newberries any skills for free especially skills that are partially leveled up. |
