Browsing for a recent video of a pub, I came across this short 6ish minute fraps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LPoxRXjyYI

It's a pretty cool video of some pretty decent ARR handling, but ignore that for now and concentrate on the killfeed.

The TL;DW is that there's a huge range weapons being used, from militia right up to officer. The important numbers to me were: 8 proto weapons, 1 experimental weapon and 2 officer weapons being used across 7 unique players. I got curious about the names in the killfeed so I did some digging.

 Black Coronel
 Mercenario 0077
 Ender Steiner
 Victor Shandai

Who are they you ask? Well you should. Those players were 12, 6, 2, and less than 1day(s) old respectively at the time the video was uploaded.

How on earth do at least 4 characters that are less than 2 weeks old get thrown in a match with at least 7 players that are at proto level? Is the pool of players queueing up just that small that the matchmaker is forced to put these two extreme ends of the spectrum together in the same match?

What are your thoughts on this?

When a player leaves the academy it puts them in the veteran league first to determine their mu score. If only they had a second tier of Academy to go to...

That can't be right. I can imagine not sticking them in the absolute lowest tier to do their evaluation, but putting them in the highest? Do you have that confirmed from CCP anywhere?

EDIT: Just saw someone say there's only 2 tiers to the matchmaker. That would explain a lot.

New chars on the same account have the same mu as their main char from what I've read.

I realize it's a bit of an ask, but do you remember where you read that?

EDIT: I like your idea of making PC more accessible and attractive to the vets to encourage them out of pubs so the new players get some breathing space.

I can confirm that you get put against the top dogs when released from academy. I even made a post about it a couple months ago when I starting saying how unfair it is. I remember getting killed by same dude repeatedly and had no clue how. So I looked him up on leaderboard and what do you know...this Kaizuka sniper guy who kept killing me had the most kills of all time. This was day 2 or 3 of playing...

Ccp rattati explained it after the last change to the match maker

Makes me wonder about the % of new players that make it out of academy vs. the % of new players that make it out of their evaluation period.

I assume that's mostly because I went through the academy only on nova knives and scrambler pistols, which meant that I didn't score particularly well at all. After my first 5 matches my estimated mu-score was thus likely much lower than if I had gone full tilt on the poor newberries.I can confirm that you get put against the top dogs when released from academy. Later, when I scored much better on that same character, I once in a while got tossed in with the pros. However, at that point, I was running a 800 ehp STD suit with an ADV weapon, so I managed.
