Once a battle is located, just before deploying, Show the team board for both teams with A PRESS X TO Deploy, press O to decline contract in the lower right side.
Fireteam, squad, or platoon leaders deploy their entire unit.
Additionally, have the name of the map's outpost listed(biomass, gallente research facility, etc) along with the map (impact Ridge, iron delta, etc)

I like your thinking, Leovarian! I very much would like to have as much info as possible (even some VOICED information, with DIFFERENT data, simultaneously overlapping what we're reading on the screen----to add even more elaborate layering to the game)... all in my Merc Quarters.
But I thin that would only make the intro before the match an even longer waiting period. We'd read a roster, and that's all,... before we push a button to join or decline. And I get the feeling that "reading the roster" is what many of those players who "leave" the match want to see right away. They want to see up-front if its worth it to do what they came here to do: risk losing while you're trying to win. And I don't know how to solve that problem.
So I think the warbarge lobby should be re-activated for the Pub matches. The lobby (more accurately called the warroom) was meant to do exactly what you're requesting in this thread. It gave everyone time to read the enemy team, swap out gear once they've seen who we're up against, see who's squaded with whom, and even choose to "leave" and be replaced by a new player before the fight actually starts. Some of us really used the warbarge lobby as completely as we could, but... other players were just, well, not seeing the worth in anything except "can we please start the match immediately---I don't need no stinkin' selections, options, and no stinkin' thinking!"
...Now that players like you are starting to value the pre-battle analysis time, the warbarge really should be returned to full operation.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...

The ability to see the board in merc quarters already exists, 'last battle'. I wanted the information available before the match started so the match maker and the team builder could reshuffle the teams until the match starts
Yes, the full minute before the match started was useful for making plans, I'd say it's best for skirmish, Dom and acquisition, but not ambush
