A while ago some fellow FA.gs decided it would be fun to hop on alts and get our butts whooped. Well, that isn't exactly what happened, we faced a full squad of some corp that I will not mention, and I noticed a few interesting things.
1) We as a squad never worked so well together. Pretty much because our survival depended on it.
2) At the very least two of our alts had less than one mil SP. Others I don't know how much.
3) Your catering towards new blood is pretty much one of maybe four reasons why you don't get new players to stay.
I decided out of boredom to point out exactly why new players can be so turned off by this game.
a) Your current playerbase is pretty much a bunch of chodes. Not something you can do much about, tbh.
b) ISK. Half of dust is dirt poor, and that's because they have the wallets of paupers, but expect caviar and fine wine out of it. The only thing you could do is make ISK near meaningless, but that will be very hard.
c) Not enough SP to rub enough together. Most vets have anywhere from 50 mil to 100 mil SP. I myself have 82 mil last I checked, but that was a bit ago since I'm too old to play.
SOLUTION: For players under a set SP number, make the missions give monumentally more SP for them. A decent limit is anywhere from 8 mil to 12 mil. Just enough to where they can get their first proto suit, weapon, and some modules.
d) Militia gear. What the hell are these abominations to the new players, and why are they here if they're so clearly incompetent?
Let's take a look at what you get out of these weapons and modules compared to the original:
More fitting space needed Less ammo Longer reload time Smaller clip crap fitting space
I understand militia shouldn't be on par with basic, but all these handicaps you put on the new guys pretty much has them saying yolo when they jump into a battle against vets. Then they say it again. And again, and again, and maybe about 20 more times until the match ends. Then they must rinse, buy ice cream to put in there sore bottoms, and repeat.
So do these new boys a favor or two. Make it a little easier on them to grow and battle in this game, and buy them that ice cream. I prefer cookies and cream, but they may want butter pecan.
