With FoxFour I'm starting to think the Magsec may have surpassed the long-reigning Matari SMG. Although, I've only ran it on a fully skilled Caldari Assault, so the recoil bonus may be distorting my view of the weapon's relative effectiveness.
What do you think?

you cant really compare the two one works more like a secondary rifle while the other is used to spray and pray '
the magsec has better range and higher damge but a lot less ROF and a smaller clip, when compared to the vanilla smg it is still the better choice for up close CQC encounters while the magsec serves to be the secondary option for range when you give up your primary weapon slot for a weapon that doesnt have range or has a specific niche role such as a shotgun or HMG even a FG
to me the magsec works wonders when withing 15-30m as you can use it similarly to the breach smg making it easy to hit your mark without having to use the scope or iron sight making it a good choice for speedy suits such as caldari and minmatar
for upclose in your face shotgun range the smg works better as a finisher or otherwise due to its higher fire rate and better spread patterns while you can still use the sight to be accurate at range
the assault smg to me is my favorite as it has both better range and a higher clip especially when using it on a min assault
the higher fire rate makes it easier to spray and pray as well as the range allowing it to be used to hit targets at ranges where the vanilla wouldn't be so effective
when considering lag higher rof weapons are always better, if looking at each weapon on its designated suit the assault smg rains king after the buff (I would argue that this was true even before then)
if we are simply looking at each one from its base stats then they both work well at what they do however you do have to consider the +-15% profile of the smg compared to that of a magsec +-10%
the smg is still better when used against armor tanks while it is a bit weaker against shields especially if outside its optimal range, while the magsec has more range is slightly better against shields and you are less likely to have to worry about shiled thresholds due to the higher base damge
in the end you cant really compare the two as the smg has many variants each that are useful for different situations while the magsec only has a single variant that doesn't work much differently then an assault RR other then being a slightly more controllable weapon due to its low charge up and the fact that it has lower base range and damge that may be slightly comparable to an assault rifle if it weren't for the different damge profiles

I prefer the Breach SMG over the Magsec on my sentinel as in most cases, that slight charge up can mean the difference in a kill or be kill situation.
IE. Going in balls deep, close to overheating or low on ammo on my HMG, switch to my sidearm to continue to fight.

Magsec still sucks in CQC, which is the combat zone within which sidearms are generally used.
"Blah blah blah, but I can make good use of it in CQC, blah blah blah! Magsec no suck, blah!"
^Congrats. But my lvl1 Caldari Assault can't, least of all with the Minotaur at the helm.

The Magsec and SMG are both in good places now.
One is not terribly better than the other.
It's all about your playstyle in the situation you're in.

I am thinking of switching to the magsec on my laser rifle fit though to get those damn Caldari Scouts

Best pair is the laser rifle and the breach smg but I like to use the BSCP out of preference. I just wish there was a proto BSCP.
