I just logged on to see how the knives performed under Hotfix SoxFour and I have to admit that I was really taken back by it all.
In a recent skirmish match in a four-point map, there was what appeared to be a blaster-fitted Soma roaming around killing my fellow blueberries. Knowing what I was dealing with here, I decided to take a calculated risk and switch to my Scout Mk.0 with Ishukone Nova Knives and only ONE complex sidearm damage modifier. The rest of the high slots were just enhanced shield extenders.
Knowing the weak spot of the HAVs, I managed to get behind the blaster tank and took out all of its shield and more than half of its armor in as little as 3 charged swipes. Of course, the driver reacted and backed out from attacking my fellow blueberries. It then focused on me. I gave chase dipping and dodging using the rolling hills to my advantage. I managed to get behind him once again and starting attacking his weak spot once more. Four 4 charged swipes later and the Soma, along with the driver and gunner, went BOOM!
I'm enjoying this.
Although, to be fair, that was a relatively weak HAV and I don't think the driver was all that bright.

'Pretty sure it died to shame, not plasma burns.
But in all seriousness, that sounds about right? It let you get consequetive hits without driving away and switching on hardeners...twice. It probably deserved to explode in that respect.

Agreed.
It may have turned out differently if it was driven by someone a little more competent.

Well, even if you don't manage to kill a tank, knives act as a pretty effective deterrant, dealing enough damage to scare away any tank drivers with reasonable IQ levels.
